OOC: Here's a thread for those going out into the snowstorm to rescue the hunters! I don't have any elves in this thread so I'm posting purely OOC, but everyone who does, feel free to jump in This takes place on Day 33, right after Waiting Out the Storm and parallel to/after In the Blizzard.

"Yah!" FarSight urged the large wolf onward, pulling the sled that carried those who went in search of the missing hunters. He hadn't exaggerated. It was cold. But with the furs he had, the riders were able to at least keep some warmth. The face mask made more sense once they began riding through the blizzard. The snow stung.
Still, the wolf went on, in the direction that he'd been told to run. He had been told to find elf scent and follow it. In the storm that was hard but he had found it, faint beneath the snow but it was there. And so he ran, pulling the sled and the new elf-friends along with. The smaller wolf was mostly able to keep up but after a while he had been added to the group on the sled making it a tighter fit and a little heavier but it wasn't too much for him. Not once he got going.
**How much further did they go?** FarSight's open send to the other elves made it clear he had no idea how far they were traveling yet he was still there to help.

Flint at least was one sure to not get cold, despite the sled going fast through the blizzard. Fire magic was useful that way, if it was a constant nuisance to have snow melt on him, but close to each other as they were he could at least provide some warmth to the others. And worst case, he could light a fire even in this conditions, stay with someone hurt who couldn't be moved and keep them alive. First they had to find them though. **They left long before me. If they did not find anything...** Coming from a planet that lost any coherent rhythm of night, day and seasons, putting words to how long it was proved a problem. All he knew was that they'd gone long before him, if still in the same day, and that if they had yet to turn around, it could be a long way off.

Eryk had joined the rescue team in a heartbeat -- despite feeling disconnected and depressed, he still had a light for life in his veins. **I think the plan was to follow the herds toward the mountains, or to the forest.** he responded to the question, trying to dig his memory WHEN exactly the group had left -- it had been light at the time, he supposed.
The carpenter tried to do some calculations inside his head, if he sharpened a pole in certain time, how long did two hands of sharpened poles do? "It's been at least a day's travel time!", he shouted over the winds and snowstorm. Of course the group gone hunting did not have a fast beast or a sled on them, so...

FarSight nodded inwardly when Eryk said it must have been only a day. He called put again "Yah!"
Frostbite continued to trudge through the deepening snow, though for him it was only coming up to about mid leg at the deepest, but most of the fresh snow was covering hardened snow beneath it which aided in the sled's speed.
Suddenly he caught a whiff of a scent. **Elf-friends** was the mental ping he open scent to the elves he was pulling. He began to follow the faint scent, letting his nose guide where he went and if he turned.
Ooc: Frostbite has limited sending ability. Ideas mainly, rather than words. He doesn't know the elves their tracking but the scents from the caves would be something he might pick up and recognize.
As I understand it, elf-blooded bonds have the ability to send like this and the general idea is when the tribe first found Northern Call, the wolves they brought and the wolves there began to mix and breed and thats how the bonding of the larger wolves began and over time it became only larger wolves as the smaller bonds died off.
If this is too much please tell me.
As for the sled, it can carry 4 elves over 3'6" elves plus a driver. 5 if they are shorter than 3'6" though the one in front should have hardly any space at all.
FarSight is obviously driving, Tambri and Eryk take up two of the slots. If need be, Tambri can be riding Spook and lagging slightly behind though still within sight.

OOC: Reefshadow is definitely taller than 3'6" but he's very lanky so he can fold easily if it'll make him take up less space.
IC: This blizzard was cold, even for the sea elf. He'd grown up in the water so far north that most of the year, no one was sure if the white stuff surrounding the holt was sand or snow. Their White Cold got cold, but something about this blizzard gave the cold a biting quality. He'd not objected to an offered pair of trousers, and he'd been working to get shoes made, even if they were just light leather. He was so unused to needing more than his mesh, it was such a strange feeling.
Folded onto the sled - not something he was unfamiliar with - Reefshadow responded to the sent question, **I concur, they've been gone about a day. But it will take us less time to travel than it would have taken them, with the sled.** He hoped. This much snow and wind could definitely slow them especially if they had to search out the stranded elves.
He really hoped they wouldn't have to dig too much. He'd known of an elf or two who'd become buried or frozen to death - finding frozen bodies was not a pleasant experience, but he didn't share that with the others. **Let's hope they stuck together.**

It was odd, to be part of a group. This probably was the first thing he did since arriving here where coordinating and communication mattered – hopefully it'd all go well. Reefshadow had irritated him a bit at first, creatures with non-natural colors usually a sign of grave danger in the world he came from. But this was an elf, not the echo of a person, and seeing him have no proper clothes made it an easy decision to huddle next to him on the sled, hoping the inner warmth from his fire magic would help. While his own clothes still looked like a patchwork of badly mended fabrics, it at least were layers. The wolf sending had him flinch. That certainly wasn't something he ever experienced in a positive setting. Would just have to do, for today. **If someone needs to, I'll stay behind there.** Not too much space left on the sledge and he was the least likely to be harmed by the cold. Lacking the words to describe his magic, he just send them a short glimpse of his life – lighting a fire on branches too wet to hold sparks, huddling with his twin in winters where the sun wouldn't rise for weeks, melting through ice on a marsh just by being present. A small thing, but he could keep a handful of people from freezing to death, even if it wouldn't be the comfort of the cave.
(OOC: Flint is just barely 3'6'', but I think there are only 5 total present either way - FarSight, Tambri, Eryk, Reefshadow and Flint. Should fit on the sledge)

It had taken Eryk a while to get used to the blue hue of Reefshadow. At first he had thought the poor lad was freezing in the middle of the winter, but apparently that was not the case. Sending was not his strongest point to begin with, and an animal sending was even more rough on his head. Eryk lightly hissed at the sensation, but said nothing. Minor discomfort was now the least of the worries — finding the others was the main focus here. Eryk only hoped the trail of scent was of living elves and not frozen corpses.

FarSight trusted Frostbite to follow the trail he'd picked up. He was leaning slightly as the sled began to turn, using himself as a sort of counterweight with the change in direction. It wouldn't be long, he hoped.
**Is anyone there? Did you find shelter? Are there wounded?**
While FarSight couldn't send far, his ability being average in strength and skill, but if they were close enough, the others might be able to hear and respond.
He could almost sense other minds but it was like reaching out for something you knew would be there but couldn't exactly pinpoint.
Ooc: I dont know how long we need to go before we actually are in range of sending.
If we are close enough let me know and I can post that in the other thread

The blue elf smiled appreciatively at Flint and the offered warmth; the fireshaper seemed to finally be warming to him, pun intended. He still wasn't sure what it was about him that had made the dark-haired elf so wary of him in the first place, but he figured it was better not to ask.
He also leaned away from the turns, used to moving on contraptions like this one, or at least, as much as he could be. He usually did most of his travel under water.
**Do we know exactly what has happened?** he asked the elves with him. **Something about a lot of snow.**
Reefshadow knew he was just distracting himself from worrying about the condition of the hunting party, but panic would do them no good.

There was not much to do but hope they came in time and that none of them got hurt trying to rescue them. In his world, there was no rescuing anyone. You either survived the encounter and came back whole or there was nothing left worth rescuing. But then here the lands itself weren't out to hurt them, no magic causing it either. Sometimes where he came from just was too different to this place to explain – at least not with words. Sending was not his strong suite, so Flint wouldn't try to reach out to anyone. Close-by was alright, but most experience he had was with his twin, knowing each others soul names, so that was different. **There was rumbling, like a mountain moved. Maybe a field of snow got loose and fell at them.** Hopefully they got out of the way, not end up buried with no air.

Eryk wanted to try and scout out for the survivors, but the wind and the snowfall did not make things at all easy. Not to mention he was not the best at sending… nonetheless, Eryk tried to send out pings to scope out any survivors.

FarSight's eyes were not as hindered by the storm. While visibility was low, he was used to these conditions and he was able to make out shapes in the distance. Exposed rock? They were close!
**Anyone alive out here? We aren't far. We're coming!**
As they got closer they could all start to see the uncovered rocks that were only just now getting a dusting of snow indicating the recent avalanche. It meant that the hunting party were somewhere in the mounds of snow they were approaching.
Ooc: taking initiative to move things along.

OOC: Tagging Sunset, Badger and Juniper into this thread, so the rescue can begin IC:No-Sting groaned, shivering. They'd been trapped a good while now, but how long was hard to tell in the complete darkness of their buried cave. She'd tried to keep sending to Sunset, but the air was getting heavy and cold both so staying awake had gotten harder and harder. The cave was too big for them to run out of air any time soon, but not being able to move around much had left her cold. She'd cuddled up next to Badger - with Mahrak on her other side, though she wasn't as happy about that - to keep warm, and she must have fallen asleep. Foolish. But what had woken her? Had she-? **Anyone out there? We're here!** she sent, pushing at her limits. Hopefully she'd actually heard something and not just dreamed it.

Badger had fallen into some tired thoughts, trying to keep herself awake in the darkness. At least there was warmth in the cave, not much, but a little. She took a note that Mahrak had snuggled up close on No-Sting and smirked lightly, then perking up as a brush of sending touched their minds. **Is this someone new?** she sent back, frowning deep. Beacon indeed worked in mysterious ways, if it had sent some elves away and brought new ones. Although, she then realized this was not the time to start introductions or anything, especially considering Sunset was still in the deeper trouble than the group in the cave.
**Help Sunset first!**, she begged, moving No-Sting and Mahrak lightly to stir them up more.
