OOC: Going with Longsleep having brushed up against Reefshadow through process of elimination IC:Longsleep, having brushed past the tall elf with the odd skin color in a friendly way, put his whole heart into digging through the snow before him. This put him right behind Flint when the cave finally revealed itself to those outside it. And it gave him the chance to rush forth and try to steady the elf carrying his elf as they came tumbling forward. Having no hands to catch with, Longsleep did his best to gently crash into the two elves, which made his movements too slow. With a grunt of distress, he crouched down next to the fallen two and tried to headbutt his elf awake. Mahrak, still too deep in unconsciousness, replied to no sendings with words, merely with a vague sense of his presence. He did not stir as Longsleep buffed at him.

OOC: A quick OOC post to check in who has time to play in this thread at the moment. No pressure, just noticed my notifications from this forum have been spotty so I assume others might have missed updates as well. Elves in this thread: Badger , Eryk , FarSight , Flint , Juniper , Reefshadow , Tambri and No-Sting & Marhak + Sunset who is already "out of the thread" by being unconscious.
Again, no stress - if you don't have time to respond here, your elves will just be "nudged into the background"

OOC: Obviously still around. I've been waiting on Farsight or Reefshadow to post, since they're the only ones needing yet to react to the cave opening

OOC: Got it! Thanks for checking in I haven't heard from Skye out-of-game since before Reefshadow's latest post back in March. Let's give her until the end of the week to check in, and if she hasn't had time to post before that maybe nudge Reefshadow to the "background" so we can move the thread along - does that sound okay to everyone?

FarSight had been preoccupied with the half-frozen elf they'd just recovered when the cave was finally opened. However once he was able to turn his attention back he glanced to the wolf and nodded. "Find. More." Frostbite and Spook were already digging where they smelled another elf, one that would unfortunately not be recovered in time (I'm forgetting the list of those who died?)
He decided to spend his own energy on helping those in the cave, unaware of Flint's creating a fire. His small form slid easily down the snowy slope, glancing around. To those who hadn't seen him, he'd look rather alien with his narrow-vision slit eye coverings and the fact that almost no skin was visible. He glanced around for injuries first. THey would be the ones they needed to tend.

"I don't want warmth, I want air!", Juniper gasped, feeling trapped and like he was running out of breath any moment now. He tried to keep calm and not trample over anyone in the process, but he basically grabbed Mahrak by the scruff and planned to drag them outside for fresh air, as soon as he had gotten up from his fall. The presence of a ... big tuftcat? ... helped and did not help, as the entrance to the little cave felt crowded and Juniper was not handling crowds too well at this moment. Also, he sent out to someone, and only for her to hear, but received no response. It did not feel like death, it felt like ... distance.

Flint had been focused on getting the fire going steady, so he could leave it without worrying it'd go out again. They had unconscious people, those needed to warm up before they'd get frostbite and not notice. Thus, he wasn't going to let Juniper walk out of here with Mahrak, glad that Longsleep budded in to keep him from it.
The younger elf walked up to Juniper, conjured a flame in his palm and held it out. “Look – look! Fire needs air too. It's burning, so there is enough air.” And, pointing at Mahrak: “You bring him out like this, he'll get frostbite and never notice till it's too late.” If Juniper wanted too, he'd not stop him from stumbling out. But he knew the dangers of being unconscious in too cold places. There was no debating this, Flint picking Mahrak up and setting him down closer to the fire. “Longsleep, keep him here.”

Tambri watched Flint and Juniper, the latter practically in a panic. She stepped forward as well, clearly tired from shaping the way she had. **There is air, but we need to get the wounded back. Frostbite or no, a healer can help, but only if we get them to one.** She, herself, was feeling closed in. She knew her claustrophobia was going to be a problem sooner rather than later. The crowded cave was too crowded for her likes, but she also understood she needed to keep calm. **If you are uninjured, then you can help us prepare the sled...** She shot a glance at Flint to let him know she wouldn't let one of the survivors out of her sight. **There are some furs we can unfold. Maybe bring them down in here to warm them up while we get those who are injured onto the sled?** She wasn't aware that FarSight had already begun using the furs for the unconscious elf.
Spook, still outside and frantically digging with the much larger dire wolf, had come across the unfortunate discovery. They had found one who hadn't survived. Tambri moved that way and frowned when she saw the hand. She sent a ping towards the body, hoping to get a response.
**Who is still missing... We...** She didn't want to tell them they'd just found a dead elf. **We need to know who we can still save...**

FarSight had just finished pulling the cover over the sled which would protect Sunset from the wind. He heard the mention of finding someone else and began to go that way, though staying close to the sled. He frowned behind his face mask at the realization that they had lost someone. He glanced to the cave and those trying to escape. They were dressed for cold, but not like this.
**I agree, we need to get the wounded back... Smoke in a cave won't be good for long...** He turned towards the sled again and began to make adjustments with the unconscious elf. He had her laying flat for now. He positioned her so that when the others came, one of the taller elves, probably the blue-skinned one, could sit on the back and hold her against him while those who were hopefully smaller could sit in front of her and all still fit under the cover. He could make two trips if he needed to, but now he was trying to figure out what to do with a dead elf.
His people would have left the elf to the wilderness, but he didn't know the customs here, nor did he want to ask about a sensitive topic such as that. He mentally counted the names he'd heard. Eryk, Reefshadow, Flint, Tambri rode Spook, this No-Sting, Mahrak, and Juniper... He glanced at Spook. The wolf was still fairly small, but could possibly carry a second elf.
**We might need to have two ride your wolf... I don't know if everyone can fit on the sled... I can take the wounded back and come back for those who aren't.**

The sea elf had been working to clear more space, wanting to make sure the others had room to work. The large cat brushing past him made him blink slightly in surprise, but he was old enough not to be too thrown by it in the moment - other things were more important.
Tambri's send brushed Reefshadow's mind and the words unspoken leeched through regardless of how much she didn't want to say them. He started doing mental calculations, his own mental list coming up short.
**Was this the only cave?** He asked, looking around to see where everyone was. He couldn't help with the heat, but he could keep digging and trying to pull people out. **Are we missing anyone else?**
Who had the small cat elf said was with her and vanished? He could find out who the dead body was by digging, but his own tribes customs said to leave them to the elements that had claimed them, and digging out the dead wasted time for digging out the living. If there were any more.

No-Sting, still overwhelmed but steadily regaining her bearings, took in the slightly chaotic rescue situation in stunned silence. Sorting through the questions and comments both sent and spoken, she did her best to try and be helpful. **My bond is back at the holt,** and wouldn't have been much help in carrying anyone, **but if there's room on anyone else's, I can ride. I just need a moment to get some air.** She would have offered to run back to the holt but knew that to be a foolish suggestion. She was still dizzy and weak from both lack of air and shock. When Tambri and Reefshadow 's questions finally made it through her dazed thought paths, she flinched. So many she didn't know where they were. **We're missing Greywing, Mindlight, Panaetha, Silvergill and Edgerunner. I don't think there was another cave. We've...not been able to reach them through sending.** **As grateful as we all are for some fire, friend,** she sent to Flint , though leaving it open for all to hear, **I worry about more snow coming down on us. I too say we should move and keep as warm as we can on the way. Frostbite is better than being buried again.** To Juniper she lock-sent: ~**I'd rather get out of here too. Warmth or no, we need to get away from this mountain.**~ Through it all she kept a firm grip on Badger 's hand, ready to either lead or follow her out of the cave at a moment's notice. Her whole body ached to get away from here, to get home, though to her current or former home she couldn't quite decide. She hoped Swift-Wind was safe back at the holt. OOC: The elf who's found dead is Edgerunner. Everyone else has vanished without a trace (teleported away by the beacon, but of course our elves can't know that for sure - though maybe Flint could sense a lot magic having been activated close by recently?).

Longsleep vaguely understood Flint's request to stay with Mahrak and gladly did so. He took little notice of the discussions around him, simply happy to find his elf safe. After all, this wasn't the first time Mahrak had gone into deep sleep when it was cold.
With a fire going and with people shoving him back and forth with some urgency, it didn't take long for Mahrak to return to himself. He reached out with his magic first of all, getting a sense of how far away the snow was now, and relieved to find the cave way free. He grumbled a little inside his own head at having lost control (again) - he really needed to train more on how to handle the water inside of himself, so it didn't pull him under like this. If he'd been alone...
Shaking aside that horrifying thought, Mahrak reached up to pat Longsleep's furry cheek. ::Friend. Glad. Safe::
Longsleep echoed the sentiment, both sharing emotions instead of words. It gave Mahrak the strength to sit up fully and open-send: **What's the plan?** He could gather that they were being rescued, but he wasn't exactly sure by who or how. There was at least one elf here he didn't recognize - if it even was an elf. He could hardly make out their shape under all those clothes and the strange mask they wore.

Tambri nodded slightly at FarSight's suggestion of riding double. She turned to No-Sting and frowned. She noted the features of the elf that was being uncovered by the two whimpering wolves before she moved to help pull Edgerunner's body from the snow. **Someone.. help me?** She couldn't heal, and even if she could, she couldn't heal the dead. She didn't want to leave the unfortunate elf buried in the snow. Perhaps in the cave would be a more fitting resting place...?
She saw FarSight's shoulders slump through the snow. He had seen as well, but he was reluctant to leave the sled, it seemed. Not that she blamed him. One wounded and unconscious elf was on the sled and he likely wouldn't want to leave her alone.
**I do not know your customs here...**

Flint meant well with his words, his actions, he just came from a very different world. One where there were no healers to go to, safety the spot you were standing on right now. So while he was good at keeping track of his surroundings, there were too many people here, with opinions so different to his own, no life-long connection to know the why.
Nodding to Tambri, he choose to focus on what was right here: the fire and Mahrak. The latter was thankfully waking up, which was a good. Gave him a moment to focus on the fire, how dangerous it'd be in this cave, to the snow still piled up. That he could control to some extend, ensure they wouldn't get smoked out nor cause another collapse. And arranging the burning wood had something mediative, more habit to run through the past moments for threats of magic, pausing on an odd feeling.
**I don't think we need to search for those who haven't replied.** It was hard to share a coherent idea of what exactly he'd felt, having been a bit away from the source, but it was like when the beacon took him, only backwards. Whether they were dead or taken, they needn't waste further resources on them. **There's room for 4 on the sledge, one taken already. There's Spook and Longsleep, to ride on.** Though he wasn't sure how well either would deal with strange riders. **I can walk, keep one or two warm enough not to suffer harm, if they stay close.**
