Keleero shrank back into the tunnel a little as the newcomer got to his feet. He could sympathize with not wanting anything to do with magical healers, but if the stranger got too displeased... There was a very big dead animal in the room, and no matter if it had been the stranger's friend or enemy, it showed something about the new elf in the room.
"Juniper knows about herbal healing, does he not?" Keleero said to Badger, doing his best to not show his nerves; something which he was thankfully very good at. "And we have plenty of warm water. I've heard hot spring water is good for wound cleaning." At least the hot spring water in Steepside had been.
Keleero studied the newcomer out of the corner of his eye, while turned towards Badger. "Do you know Juniper is right now?"

The sea-elf hid a frown, confused by the newcomer's resignation towards magical healing, but he nodded, not wanting to press the issue. As long as he would agree to have his wounds tended, the blue elf didn't particularly care how it was managed. "No magic, understood. I know we have at least one elf who can serve as a, ah, medic as you said."
He glanced over at Keleero. "I believe he went out a few fingers ago with Greywing."

Eryk snorted a little. "I-I can wash these wounds myself, if I can get hot water and wash cloth." he said, trying to stay strong. New bruises announced their presence with a dull pain. The carpenter suspected he was going to be blue from the bruising for a good while.
All the strange names flew past, and he did his best not to be sick on the cave's -- B-Beacon Room, they had called it? -- floor. "Also, thread and needle for the worst injuries." he said, although he suspected there was nothing THAT bad -- or did he hope so? With fuzzy gaze, he looked at the carcass. "I claim the fur. And fangs." he then said, pointing at the snowcat's carcass. "I need a new coat. Last one--" there was a faint sob, Eryk tried to cover, "--was left behind."

Badger nodded, when Reefshadow told Juniper was out. "Ohh, that's right. Funny, I thought he'd be back already. I hope they did not vanish..." Badger said, looking a little troubled. She watched the stranger from afar, but then nudged Keleero.
"I'll go get that hot water and see if we can get some other m-medic equipment." she said to the glider and moved out of the room. Badger's eyebrows were furrowed and there was a faint wrinkle in between. She was feeling worried that the grey-haired newcomer did not want to be magically healed, but she was not going to pry.

Keleero gave Badger a curt nod as she exited the room, heading for the hot springs. Her comment about Juniper and Greywing maybe having disappeared put him furhter on edge. He would have been glad to join her in leaving, but didn't think it appropriate to leave Reefshadow alone with the upset newcomer. If the stranger got lost in grief and attacked Reefshadow Keleero knew he might find himself at the end of a great many questions - at least, that's what he assumed would happen.
"I fear we might not have suitable needle and thread," Keleero said, still hovering at the exit from the tunnel that lead to the Sleeping Chamber. "Our supplies are...limited." Clothers were being made, but Keleero had no idea if needles for fabric and furs would do for skin and flesh. He'd rather not think about it, actually.
"The animal you slew is of course yours," he hurried to add, looking at Reefshadow to make sure he hadn't gone against some kind of hunting code of conduct. "Are you in need of anything else?" He was hoping for a task to get him away from the Beacon Room - though not one that meant he had to go outside.

Curse this blasted weather! The farther into the central regions they were forced to go, the more rain they encounters. At least right now it was only mud and a dense fog to contend with as the massive Dengali force marched alongside war machines and tanks along a winding mountain road. The briefing had informed that the Resistance Factions were retreating into a mountain stronghold after a long battle at the foot of the mountain. Reports said that many were wounded and likely dying, and it seemed their forces had little to no ammunition reserves remaining. That was why the Emperor called for the entire force present in the region to march up the mountain and attack the stronghold. Take any wounded that would survive the trip back and "mercifully" execute the rest. Mercifully, of course, meant very little when it came from the mouth of the Emperor.
"Watch the front! Movement!"
The call was from someone maybe fifty feet ahead of her. Lowering the visor on her helmet and activating the infrared sensors, she began to scan the surrounding areas. The fog made it impossible to see more than 10 feet in front of her face.
"AMBU--!"
The voice was cut short at the sounds of weapons firing and those around her scrambling to take cover. That was when she saw the red forms. The helmet's programming pointed out those with transmitters with green hue, but as the red hues began to emerge within range, it was obvious they had just walked into a large resistance force. Hissing as she felt one of the needles in her own transmitter poking into her neck, she felt her heart rate start to slow as the mind-controlling serum was injected. Fear and doubt faded and all that remained was a calm sense of duty. Pressing herself against a tank, she began to return fire at the attackers with her plasma rifle.
The tank wasn't stopping, however. It was continuing to move forward. There was no cover on the mountainside where they currently were. Trees lined the upper slopes, but the lower slopes had fewer. There was a river a hundred feet or so down the slope that was high with excess water caused by the large amounts of rain the previous few days. Going downhill would not provide cover and the tanks couldn't go up the steep slope. Her duty was to protect the tanks.
Suddenly she was on her back, a growl being heard to her side. She turned to glance at her attacker. A young human had thrown her to the ground and was now coming around with a long knife. He should have opened with that attack. Kicking her feet, she was able to push herself away enough that the attack missed. Rising to her feet again, she blocked the next and began to fight back. Something caught her attention out of the corner of her eye as it landed at her feet. Grenade. The human was unaware of it, as his focus was on her. Of course, had she not had the serum injection she would have likely missed it, too.
Pushing herself off the human, turning, she meant to leap away, but the grenade went off, sending her into the air. Dropping her plasma rifle, she braced herself for impact on the sloped mountainside heading downward. The impact sent a jolt of pain through her right side before she launched forward again. Landing a few feet lower on the mountain, she tucked herself in and rolled, in an attempt to stop her descent. Had the ground not been so damp and muddy it may have worked. Instead, she found herself no longer bouncing foot to hand but just rolling.
She saw the rock coming but had no time to react. Everything went black the moment her head impacted. Limply, she continued to roll until, with a splash, she found herself in the fast and violent-moving river, being washed downstream.
--Elsewhere--
The crystals in the beacon room began to shimmer once more before a black-clothed and geared being appeared, falling approximately two feet to the floor, water splashing around the body. Landing with a heavy thud on her back, her tail curved away from her body, her right hand falling to the floor from her chest.
The black clothing she wore had several tears, in most places revealing her white, spotted fur beneath, but along her right leg and arm were various patches of what appeared to be burns, bleeding slowly. The helmet's visor had been completely shattered and there was a large split in the helmet itself, though only remained attached by a chin strap. She was laying on a backpack, though it obviously didn't have much in it considering the top flap was open, obviously having been torn as the clasp was still locked together. Her entire body was soaked.
She had a small strangely shaped sheath on her left thigh, still clasped, the weapon (a hand gun to give a visual) still secured in place. On her waist were two black boxes with an orange-colored liquid inside, as well two smaller cylinders next to them. Tucked into her right boot was the handle of what appeared to be a knife. Her head tilted back slightly revealing a black collar around her neck. Unseen with the helmet on, the collar secures to a metal device attached to the back of her neck. The device has a series of colored 'bubbles', a yellow-orange colored one (approximately centered in the row) steadily blinking.

Ooc: should I just delete that post and try another time? Seemed to kill the thread Oh no, you didn't kill the thread! Activity here just drops up and down since we're all busy with offline-life at different times. Since Stephanie hasn't posted for Reefshadow for a while now, I think we can skip her turn. I'll post with Keleero soon if no one else in the thread beats me to it

If there was one thing Keleero hadn't been prepared for in that moment, it was for a new stranger to pop into the Beacon Room right out of thin air. Only millenia of experience in keeping out of harms way stopped him from crying out in surprise. He kept to his side of the cave, giving Eryk and Reefshadow an uncertain look. "Are...they alive, do you think?" he asked the two of them, despite the futility of the question. They surely could see if the stranger was breathing any better from where they stood. It was honestly eerie how much the new stranger looked like the dead snow cat they lay close to. If Keleero hadn't met Panaetha he wouldn't even have thought to check if the newcomer was an elf. But the shape of their body was decidedly elfin, if hidden under a lot of fur and stranger gear. The tail was also decidedly un-elf-like. **How badly are you hurt?** he tried sending to the newcomer, to see if he'd get an answer. ~**We seem to have yet another newcomer, Badger ,**~ Keleero found himself enough to lock-send after his first sending. ~**Better bring enough hot water and medicine for two. This one looks to have been through a lot.**~

Eryk was startled and shocked at the best, when another ... person popped in the room. Literally popped. He backed away, but as the stranger seemingly had been pulled to the room the same way as the carpenter, the grey-haired male remained still. He had not noticed it, but his hand had moved on his ax, ready to fight and defend himself, in case the stranger proved to be dangerous.

SL2657F remained still for several moments. Keleero's send did reach her mind, though there was no response, not even a ping of acknowledgement. The voice echoed in her mind for several seconds before suddenly consciousness flooded back into her. Coughing heavily, spitting water to the floor as she rolled to her left side, bracing herself against the floor as she gasped for air. Once the coughing subsided, she reached up to remove the helmet. It was useless and making it feel harder to breathe. She needed to be able to breathe if she was going to escape. She knew immediately she wasn't with friendly forces. They wouldn't have sent to her. That could only mean she had been captured.
She moved to push herself to stand before crying out in pain, collapsing back to the floor, her right arm moving to her burned leg, trembling as she hissed. Again, she tried to push herself up, glancing around at those gathered. Two males and what looked like a child, one of the water-elves if she had to make a guess. There weren't many of them left as far as she knew. If this is all hey had to guard a prisoner, the Resistance must be worse off than had been reported. She saw the white haired male going for... an ax? Why would the guards be armed with something so ancient? She felt the holstered gun shift as she moved. Why wouldn't they disarm her? What was going on?
Without the serum, she wouldn't be able to ignore the injury. It didn't help that she felt as though a tank had run her over, either. Still, she saw the exit... and it would be right past the ax-wielding white-haired male. Her hand went to the handle of her gun, unclipping the holster. With their archaic weapons, they probably didn't know she was bluffing. Wet as she was, the firing mechanisms were no-doubt soaked as well and completely useless until they had a chance to dry. It was really her only chance. Her knife wouldn't do much against an ax... Here's hoping her leg holds out until she can escape the Resistance compound...
"<Make this easy on yourself... and stay out of my way...>" When she spoke, it definitely wasn't Elven.

Keleero froze. Not getting an answer of any kind from a sending was unsettling enough - it brought back a fair share of chilling memories. Judging from how the newest stranger moved it was clear their injuries were serious. But it was the words she spoke that numbed Keleero's mind to all but thoughts of strategy and survival.
He didn't know the language, couldn't understand the words, but he could hear the rhythm of them. It wasn't the same words the human by Steepside Mountain spoke, but they were different enough from elfin words to mark them as alien and threatening. The stranger didn't answer sendings and spoke some sort of human tongue - and whatever she'd said, it hadn't been friendly.
Badger's answer to his sending barely registered to Keleero for a good five heartbeats. His attention was too occupied by the strange weapon the newest stranger was aiming at them - it had to be a weapon, with how she was holding it. Was it some kind of crossbow? No, it looked nothing like a crossbow or a bow of any kind. A human-made sling? No...
~**Newest arrival doesn't seem too...happy to be here,**~ Keleero finally managed to answer Badger, sending images of how the stranger was aiming the foreign weapon at him, Eryk and Reefshadow, as well as the strange, human-sounding words she'd spoken. ~**Maybe it'd be best if you kept to the hot springs for a moment longer. And maybe find one of the healers. In case things go badly.**~ Getting more people than there already were involved in this could lead to a bloodbath, if that indeed was some strange kind of crossbow the newest stranger held. As much as Keleero wanted more warriors on his side should things deteriorate into a fight, he knew the sound strategy would be to keep the rest of their group spread out. Their potential opponent was, after all, a single, injured person.
If they hadn't been in a cave, panic might have moved Keleero to retreat. But fleeing rarely did one any good, especially when one had grown up inside a mountain one couldn't leave. No, the best strategy was usually to negotiate or outwit your enemy. If worst came to worst, that's when you fought - he had the advantage here, surrounded by rock. And you never, ever showed how terrified you were.
Face schooled into a perfectly blank mask, Keleero said to the newest stranger: "I'm afraid I don't speak that language. Can you understand what I'm saying?" He hoped his words would defuse the situation - he couldn't quite see what Eryk and Reefshadow were doing, but he thought Eryk looked posed to fight.

OOC: Posting after at least one week of idleness.
SL2657F's ears flicked in response to Keleero's words. She glanced slightly his direction, the only indication she had heard him. She understood the words. Sort of. She didn't hear a lot of the Elfin language where she came from. It was clear they didn't speak the common tongue of the Dengali, which only made things more confusing to her. Who in this world couldn't speak the Emperor's language!? It'd been the common language for centuries!
She slowly started moving toward the exit, ears perked and alert. Her movements were pained and it was obvious that she couldn't put much weight on her right leg. Still, if she could keep them at a distance with her bluff, she might be able to get out of this cave and into the woods. Regroup with the platoon. Why was it so blasted cold, though!? It had been crisp during the fight, but not cold like this. Perhaps it was because of the river water? Coughing slightly, water still trapped in her lungs from nearly drowning, she tried to keep herself poised to fight or flee, but that nagging cough was starting to get worse again. Flinching as she coughed harder for a moment, she shook her head at the three gathered, motioning for the white-haired male and the sea-elf child to move toward Keleero's position. Keep them together so she couldn't be flanked...
<"Move. Now! Don't give me a reason..."> She just hoped her bluff continued to hold. The white-haired male didn't look like he was going to move. The dead snowcat nearby and the blood on the male suggested he was responsible for the dead feline. Ironic that it had to share markings with her to a degree. The cough caused her to look away from Eryk briefly, coughing into her shoulder, practically curling in on herself from the force of the cough. If one paid enough attention, her finger squeezed the trigger of the gun once during the coughing... and nothing happened other than a soft sizzle of steam leaving the chamber, missed by herself.

Eryk kept watching the stranger, keeping his hand on his ax, and slightly moving himself in between Reefshadow and the stranger. He was not a warrior -- not like the best ones in his old tribe, no -- but the movement to shield Reefshadow was an instinct. Although, one could always argue his shielding was no use, considering the pale elf was so tall. Eryk kept quiet, and tried to listen to the words of the stranger, only to notice he did not understand the speech at all. ~**What is that ... person ... saying?**~ he sent to Keleero, hoping that the pale, worried-looking elf knew the words better than the carpenter.
