OoC: Happens on day 16 after the first elves to appear. This is the same day when Juniper and Greywing are out to look for medicine for Choice. Eryk's full locked sending was "I love you. I love you so much". Snow cat is probably something similar to a snow leopards in our world. Shard is his elk steed, left behind.
~*~
Slowly and softly, the crystals in the Beacon Room began to shimmer.
~**-- so much.**~ he locksent, only to receive no answer -- the grey-haired elf had gone over so far that his sending did not reach the recipient any longer. With a thump, he landed on the stony cave floor, with a dying snow cat all over him, still attempting to bite his head off. Eryk noticed he was aching all over; struggling with the cat had not been the easiest to him, especially with the spear snapped in two and gone. He had had his ax, but in the middle of wrestle and struggle, he had managed to pull out only his better woodcarving knife and stab the beast wherever possible.
And just where had landed to? *Ungh, am I in some troll cave?* the elf pondered, although he was not entirely sure HOW he had landed in the cave. He had fallen off a cliff, right? ~**Danik, Danik, can you hear me?**~ he locksent to his brother, only to receive no reply... ~**Meridi, I am lost!**~ Still no reply.
The carpenter huffed and started to push the groaning, dying beast off of himself. **Anybody hear me?** he sent an open sending. Maybe Yarl or Zeel or SOMEONE, ANYONE really was out and scouting. He had not seen anyone on the same route as himself and Shard, though, but it never hurt to try. And maybe Shard would return to the Lodge and they would notice him missing.
Speaking of hurt, Eryk slowly took a notice of that he was hurt. His arms were scratched pretty decently, there were some minor marks on his sides and legs too. And the fall had given him a good beating. Carefully, the cat was pushed away, and the carpenter tried to get on his feet. **Anybody hear me?** he repeated.

It was a peaceful day, thusfar. Most of the elves were asleep, and those that weren't were either doing things elsewhere or quietly. Wrapped loosely in his furs, he held a strand of some plant matter Juniper had brought back and was testing its pliability. So far it seemed tough but easy to manipulate, and he was thoroughly engrossed in fixing the worn places in his netting. He wasn't very good at it, but at least he knew how to repair without making it worse.
At least, that was what he was doing until he heard, faintly, a thud and the sound of a struggle. He perked an ear, but the noise had stopped. Reefshadow had almost started to work again when he heard the send and groaned inwardly. Great.
**Yes, yes, I hear you.** He unfolded, walking calmly into the Beacon Room to see who had called, and was mildly astonished at the dead cat and the half-dead elf. **Welcome?** His voice was tinged with confusion and concern.

With shaking legs, Eryk had managed to get up. This probably was not a smart choice, as the carpenter noticed more aches around his body -- as well as his coat missing. He tried to recall where it had been left, but the conclusion of the carpenter was, that the coat had got ripped during the struggle. Eryk tried locksending to his family and loved one again, but reached no one.
Only an unfamiliar mind voice replied, and as soon as he saw the tall, oddly coloured elf, the carpenter fell down on his rump. "I-is this some sort of troll trickery?" he asked with weak voice, when he eyed the almost translucent elf up and down. Captives were not unheard of, Eryk knew it, they had -- after all -- saved some captives in the last war. But none of them had looked so weird as this elf that now was here. "Is this a dungeon?" he then asked, feeling really confused, considering he did not have any memory of actually being caught. And if this was some sort of troll trickery, WHY would they have bothered with the snowcat, too?

The sea elf watched as the glow faded from the crystals, frowning slightly. They had been taking people from here, too, at least recently, and they were really beginning to make him uneasy. He looked back down at Eryk, admitting that while the animal's appearance was strange, the elf certainly didn't look any stranger than any of the others. In a few long strides he was past the fire and offering the Go-Back a hand up. "Nope, no trolls here, at least not that we've discovered, and we don't have a dun-jin." What in the world is a dun-jin? "Welcome to our little home, full of stragglers from all walks of life. We have about as much clue about how you got here as about how we got here. I'm Reefshadow."

Eryk was not still completely aware that he had changed dimensions or time. *Aaaaah! There is more elves living beneath our mountain!* he thought as he was helped up, *Do they ALL look so off?* he wondered. He did not voice out his thoughts, but his gaze was full of bewilderment. Eryk thought of maybe trying to locksend once again, but his second thoughts reminded him that he was still out of reach.
Over his shoulder, the carpenter looked at the large beast. "I -- uhh -- I was attacked, while I was doing rounds on my steed. ...I suppose you have not happened to see an elk with notched ears around, have you?" he asked. The go-back was not still quite ready to accept the fact that this was not a trolls' trick and he was not being held a captive. The dimming crystals were odd to him, but now his main concern was to clean up the bloodied blade and then get out of the cave -- especially if it was not a dungeon and he was not a captive.
Eryk had to search for a while, but he eventually located the knife nearby the snowcat carcass.

Oh boy, this should be interesting. The blue elf rubbed his hand across his face, exhaling in exasperation. "Okay, so, you might want to stay sitting, at least for the moment. I totally understand if you panic. First, to answer your question, no, I have not seen an elk fitting that description or any other description. You are in, "Reefshadow swept an arm to indicate the room, "what we've begun calling the Beacon Room."
The wavedancer watched Eryk search for his knife. "Wherever it is you're from, you're probably nowhere near there now. As far as we can tell, this is nowhere near any of our homes. We don't know how, or why, but those glowing crystals have some sort of magic in them. I'm sorry."
Reefshadow waited quietly, watching the Go-Back, waiting for his words to register.

It took him a good while to process the words the tall, blue elf was telling him. Eryk wanted to believe it was a joke, a carefully crafted practical joke from Nyrah or Garech to get back on him. Eryk's heart began to beat harder, so hard it felt like it would burst out his chest. His pale face went even paler, when the blood escaped to the heavily beating heart.
He realized this was too much for a practical joke. Sap in boots, that was a decent joke, this was just too cruel to be true.
The carpenter fell on his knees, eyes welling up. It was hard to be a tough go-back warrior, when being alone in a strange place -- and Eryk had never been so tough to begin with.
He managed not to cry tears in front of Reefshadow, but he wailed out. It was a pure shout of pain and loss, as if his loved ones were all dead. In a way, they kind of were.

Badger was just returning from a fruitless fishing trip, when she heard it. A wail of pure pain and agony. It made her skin crawl and hair stick up in the back of her neck, but she did not believe in any monster tales the elders had told to cubs to get them not going to the forbidden places. Her rational mind told it was probably another arrival -- all of the signs told her as such, especially considering the wail had come from the Beacon Room.
The female headed toward the room. The faint scent trail told that one of the older arrivals was there already to greet the newcomer, but it sounded like some help was needed. She was surprised to see Reefshadow in the room -- although, she reminded herself, the blue-skinned elf was more suited for indoors at the moment. The stranger was about wolfrider's height, she noticed as she eyed the stranger crying on the floor.
~**Need any help?**~ she locksent to Reefshadow at the entrance of the Room.

~**I might. Stick around?**~ His send conveyed worry and that confusion that only comes when you're not sure how to handle a situation. Carefully, Reefshadow knelt in front of Eryk, reaching out to hold him. He wrapped long arms around the Go-Back, unsure how his efforts would be recieved, but able to see clearly just how distressed the small elf was.
**Know that you are safe here, though. I wish I could tell you it will all be okay, but that would be a lie. Let it out, mourn, and hope that it gets easier.** His send was tinged with a deep-set pain of his own; he understood how Eryk felt, to lose everything you knew and loved, and even now it still tore at him. His sister's face swam before his mind's eye, and he felt his throat tighten as he tightened his arms in response.

As much as he wanted to push the tall stranger away, the go-back felt too weak to do so. The shock had made him feel like all the power had been drained from his muscles, so he just allowed himself to be held for a moment. Some tears escaped his eyes, but the wails had changed into a weak, slightly hoarse whisper. "They will think I am dead..." Eryk muttered, and snorted. "They won't know what happened."
Eryk's voice was full of agony and regrets. There had been so many things he had not managed to do. He had not told Meridi enough about how much he loved her, he had not apologized to Beku for being so silent. That fishing trip with his brother he had planned to do TOMORROW only to be postponed to another tomorrow and another... The carpenter took deep breaths, trying to calm himself down, even if he wanted to die on the floor.

Badger sent an affirming ping, when Reefshadow asked her to stick around, in case he needed any help. To the wolfrider, it seemed like the sea elf was handling the situation pretty well, but it never hurt to have another pair of hands available. She kept at the entrance, listening to what the newcomer had to say. His voice and words seemed so sad, and it twinged something in Badger's heart too. Her tribe had been left behind too, but she felt like she had not had as much regrets as the grey-haired lad. Maybe her only regret was the way she had not been connected to her old tribemates.
"I... I am so sorry you were chosen and beamed here." she then said, rather timidly, unsure if the stranger even heard or listened. "To some, it has been a relief, but I understand that you are hurting." Bashfully, she entered the room. "W-would you let us help with your bodily injuries, at least?", the wolfrider asked, but kept her distance.

Post by Keleero on Oct 10, 2015 23:46:23 GMT 1
It was time for sleep. It really was.
Keleero had woken at dawn and gone to tend to the forming hot springs, where he'd spent the day hard at work. With all that had happened in the past handful of days and all the emotions that were running high, it had felt safer to stick to doing something useful away from most others. That way there was less of a chance that he'd be the victim when someone finally decided to take their grief and frustration out on others.
Now he was tired and ready for bed. But a wail from the Beacon Room had made settling in the Sleeping Chamber impossible. It had sounded like a new voice. Keleero knew himself well enough to realize he'd get no sleep with an unidentified stranger in the mountain. So he'd wrapped a fur around himself and kept moving.
Since all elves in this place knew of his magic talents, Keleero had taken to gliding everywhere when possible. It was easier, more familiar than walking, despite the low ceilings, and keeping his gliding secret from a newcomer would be pointless. They'd see it or figure it out within a day or two.
Thus Keleero made his way through the tunnel from the Sleeping Chamber to the Beacon Room by floating. He came to a halt at the mouth of the tunnel, taking in the scene before him. Reefshadow was on the floor with a new elf, who clearly was distraut. The grief the newcomer's expression spoke of made Keleero very uneasy. In Steepside grief was something you kept to yourself, hid, and never shared with anyone but your closest kin, if even then. But this stranger seemed to be yet one more elf willing to put his despair on display.
Or maybe he was hurt? There was a great, terrible beast near the Beacon that Keleero doubted any of the hunters had brought in. Such a kill would have been sent, surely, and it wouldn't have been the first time a beast came through with an elf.
...but what if the beast was the newcomer's...what was the word - 'bond'?
Hovering in the doorway - litteraly - Keleero asked: "Should I get one of the healers?"

The sea elf glanced up at Keleero's entrance, amused at the glider's demeanor despite the situation. He nodded at the question, turning back to Eryk. "But you are not dead, despite the efforts of that great beast, and that leaves hope." As frightened as some of the remaining elves had been when Nettle and the others disappeared, it left Reefshadow excited and hopeful. Maybe it meant he could get home, one day, and see his sister again. "The Beacon has sent people away, too. Maybe, one day, you can go home. Do not give up hope."
He released the young elf, holding his shoulders and trying to look him in the eyes, to get him to focus. "We have healers. Will you consent to have them help you? You are very much injured and though you are dressed better than some of us here, you should still have those wounds tended before the cold does you further harm." Though he didn't have much room to talk, as he was still wearing what he arrived in, but the cold didn't bother him nearly as much as it did some of the others.

Eryk looked Reefshadow in the eye, as he slowly gathered himself. As much as these strangers were worried of his well-being, he still did not trust them, and he did not trust magic as much as he could have. "No magical healing." he said, his tone deadly serious. As said, the carpenter was not very tough to begin with, but he still had his pride.
Eryk did not believe he was not THAT injured as the strangers saw him to be. He had had worse, and even then he had basically toughened it out and walked it off (well, not really). His old scars proved he had managed something wicked -- and he would survive onward to the future. "I-if there is a medic or non-magical healer, I think I could use some cleaning on these wounds." he then said.

Badger nodded a greeting to Keleero, who seemingly had decided to just ... float around. She gasped a little, when the grey-hair refused magical healing. Had she had his injuries, she would have been grateful for any help, magical even! Well, as it seemed the male had his reasons for not magical healing, she turned to look at Keleero.
"Do we have any, uhh, medics, was it?" she asked with low tone -- she still had not learned of everyone's skills properly. "I could fetch hot water from the springs, too, if it's needed?"
