Choice looked on with a pleased smile as Milo expressed clear delight at being trusted with the wolf cubs FarSight had brought to the holt. It felt good to see Milo get treated like part of the tribe, even if by a new face. The attitude of elves like Keleero hadn't exactly been welcoming to the poor boy and Choice was glad to see one more person who didn't react strangely to Milo. Toward Crispin his smile turned reassuring. "Oh don't talk yourself short, my friend! Just seeing the glow of magic and the improvement it can bring, however swift, is wonderful enough!" He genuinely meant it. Seeing FarSight move around easier (if not fully recovered) after a brief touch from Crispin was breathtaking! He was a little startled by Flint simply getting up and starting to prepare to head out. "A-are we sure it's a good idea to go right away? We're not sure there's any trouble other than the weather. They might have huddled down in a safe place." At least he hoped so - dearly dearly hoped so. Choice held his breath as Crispin tried to reach the hunters. "Anything?" he echoed FarSight, probably far too quickly for there to have been a chance at an answer. The hunters could be mid-chase, could be too busy to spare more than a quick flicker of acknowledgement. Or they could be too far away to answer, even though they'd heard Crispin. Or they could have... To distract himself from that thought, he said to Tambri : "It probably wouldn't hurt if more than one person tried to send. I fear I'm no help with that, but if we're lucky at least one of you will reach them! They did go far." She seemed busy helping FarSight with the sled, but surely another attempt at sending would be a good addition? Finding out if there was reason to worry had to be the first step, right? It would be a great risk to go out into the storm, not something to do unnecessarily. Another thought struck him. He turned to FarSight: "Is there any way to hide your sled's tracks? I know the storm will do a lot of that work for you, but...there are unfriendly humans out there." Choice had no idea what kind of weather humans could put up with. They seemed a hardy people, based on what he'd been told of them, but then again the storm sounded like it could be a terrible one. Maybe humans had to stay in their dens too during such weather? *** OOC:Quick reminder #1 - When sending between threads, please copy the part of your post that has the sending and post it in the other thread too in italics, so we can keep track of who is sending to who when ( like I did here in an earlier thread). It would be great if you could post She didn't wait for any encouragement, reaching out far as she could to everyone: **Anyone in need of help due to the storm?** in the hunter's Blizzard thread with Crispin Sonja! I'll have my hunters attempt a reply to Crispin's sending as soon as I've got Crispin's post in that thread, so I know where in the whole "avalanche is coming" part of the hunter's thread the sending reaches them. Quick reminder #2 (since this was established way back in July of last year) - The hunting party is currently roughly a day's travel north of the holt. Travel with sled would likely go slightly faster than the hunters moved, though still take at least half a day since the hunters had bond-friends to ride there aka weren't on foot the whole way + the rescue party will have to track them, since they don't know exactly where the hunters went. This also means you need to decide if your elf's sending range can reach the hunters! I'd say any strong sender like Crispin can make it, but average senders would probably have to push themselves a lot to manage, and might not reach them even then. Choice definitely can't reach the hunters, but he is still fairly out of practice with sending. My hunters (aka No-Sting & Mahrak) might be able to push themselves to reply to Crispin, but we'll see

Tambri looked up as she was asked to send and shook her head. **I can send, but... I've never been able to send very far. I've never needed to. If I've needed to communicate via send, usually the elf is close by.** Still, she closed her eyes and reached her mind out, calling on a reply that all is well. She remained still for several moments before she shook her head. **I don't think I could... I tried but... I don't feel anything... I don't think I reached them.**
OOC: Tambri could have potentially been felt sending, but she is an average sender and I don't think she'd be able to reach elves that were a day or more away. With that in mind, if someone wants to react to feeling it, fine, but I'm not going to double post over in the other thread for the simple fact that I don't think she'd reach them, personally.

The optimism Choice displayed was something Flint had never learned. No, his world had been a cruel one, everything changing the moment you turned your back, so he couldn't help but act on a lifetime of this. All he knew was that it'd never been safe to leave Sapling out of shouting range and he'd not take any chances with Mahrak or any of the others. “Would you rather we wait and be too late?” he asked back, shook his head slightly. The only reason he hadn't started yet was the wait on the sledge – Flint had an idea which direction the hunters went, but as used as he was to taking endless hikes, it'd take time. Especially since snow had the annoying habit to melt on him. OOC: Did the extra post with Crispin, will remember next time! Flint and Milo won't try sending, they're both not good enough, but she should be good enough to reach at least some of the hunters, given that she is doing this for most her life.
Will post with the others in here once there's a reply back on the sending

FarSight glanced over at the discussion. "I've lived in snow my entire life. It's cold and dark most of the year in Northern Call. This storm? Well, I was traveling through one when I arrived. This one can't be any worse, and I doubt it'll be as cold." FarSight of course couldn't be certain of the temperature outside, but he had survived nights on a sled when the temperatures froze his breath as it left his mouth. "Just wear something to protect your face. We'll be moving fast and the wind will dry and crack your skin and freeze your eyes. Doesn't need to be much, a leather strap with small slits to see through will be enough. We'll be trusting Frostbite's eyes and nose to not run into things."
He spoke as he was harnessing the wolf to the sled. The large wolf seemed eager to go, though kept looking over to the Not-Quite-Elf-Friend and the cubs, but since his Elf-Friend seemed okay to leave them then he would trust him. (OOC note: Trying to capture wolf thought. lol)

Crispin's sending caught her by complete surprise and she had no coherent response to give. On pure reflex, she pushed her usual mental limits and sent back panic, fear, confused images of fleeing pronghorns and the rumbling sound of the avalanche.
OOC: Mahrak and Swift-Wind won't be able to answer, but No-Sting managed to push herself here - she's gonna have a bad headache later, for all manner of reasons XD

"I-I didn't mean that," Choice said, a little taken aback by Flint 's question. "I only meant that the storm is a danger to anyone who goes out into it. Many of the hunters are used to snow. What if they're perfectly safe and you head out and get hurt for no reason? Who will rescue you then?" He flinched at FarSight 's descriptions of what would be needed to keep everyone safe on the sled. He thought the outside was cold enough already, even with many layers of furs and leather to keep him warm. He put extra wood on the fire out of pure reflex and glanced at Crispin . "Anything?" ( OOC: I think you captured wolf thought well, Panda )

Crispin had attentive listened for anything that might come back, aware that the others might not reach her easily or coherently. And then No-Stings sending came and left her in a bit of shock, worried as their fears seemed to come true. She put on her best calm face, long honed by years of being a healer, before answering the question. **They are afraid. Confused. Not hurt yet, but I think it's best if someone looks after them** The noise of the avalanche she couldn't interpret, instead shared it with the elves around, hoping they'd know what it was.

Flint blinked irritated, not understanding the problem here. “No one. I'll make it myself or die.” Just like it's always been. Maybe Sapling and he had avoided getting separated and helped each other out, but they'd been both aware and prepared to be on their own. “Got my fire.” With that he at least had one advantage to the others: he was less likely to freeze. Though he still heeded FarSights advice about covering his face, taking out one of the many scraps of cloth in his backpack and wrapping it around his head – a strip over his eyes left uncovered, but for him that'd be less of an issue. “Let's go.” Even without Crispin confirming, better to be safe than sorry. Whoever else wanted to come along should speak up now.

Tambri looked to Flint. **No one said we're waiting for the storm. We're working on this so we can go after them prepared. That sound... it sounds like a mudslide...** She'd only heard one once before during the heavy rains as she traveled. She knew what it was because she could see it from where she had been camping. It hadn't been a danger to her, but if that was what the group was encountering, then it was best to go after them.
FarSight nodded in agreement with Flint and Tambri. He pulled the sled backwards towards the exit, the large wolf moving that way as well. Ever patient, he would wait for the command. "Hop on the sled if you're coming... It'll be faster than having you try to keep up. Can your wolf keep up?" He glanced at Spook then back to Tambri.
Tambri nodded. **I think so. If not he shouldn't be far behind us.** She helped to push the sled outside, taking a strap of leather that FarSight offered, using it to wrap around her face. He seemed confident about the conditions and considering what he looked like, he was definitely used to the cold.
OOC: Moved FarSight because he's mine.

"High Ones help us!" Choice yelped at Crispin's revelation of the hunters' situation. He dearly wished he'd had more experience with the snow because clearly their tribemates needed aid - aid he had no capacity to give. He was about to speak more, but Flint's words cut him short with further shock. "Die?!" he gasped out at last, staring at Flint as if he'd grown another head. "You can't mean that! Why in the world would you think-" He fumbled for what to say, to put shape to the horror and disbelief Flint's matter of fact attitude to possible death caused him. "You are part of this tribe just as much as the hunters! Why would we try to aid them and leave you to die in the snow?" Choice paused to collect his thoughts as Tambri, FarSight and Flint discussed what to do next. He forced himself to calm. No one was hurt, that they knew of. Those going to the hunters aid had FarSight's impressive sled to help them move faster even than a bond-friend could. Everything would be fine. "You're right, Flint. You have your magic and you know well how to survive. And I'm sure you know well how to handle the snow, FarSight, and that you will bring help to the others too, Tambri." He glanced around at those in the Beacon Room, unsure of what else to say, other than, "Is anyone else going? I fear I'd be more hindrance than help out in the storm but I'll do my best to help whenever you get back." OOC: Looks like we're approaching an end to this thread, everyone My suggestion is that we tie up what's going on here and then start two new threads with a brief timejump - one with the people who stay behind in the holt and one for the rescue party. Does that sound good with everyone?

OOC: Posting again to just try and jumpstart the next stage of this.
It took a few moments to get the sled positioned at the entrance to the cave. Farsight moved behind the slid, looking as if he was going to push the sled. Those who had seen him arrive may have noticed he was standing on the back, a little shelf that was attached to the back. Tambri moved over to the sled then climbed onto the back, so there'd be room in front of her. Frostbite was standing tall, looking almost proud as he waited for the command to start running.
"What direction did they go?" He watched as the others climbed onto the sled that were going with. He thought he caught sight of a large spotted cat standing in the shadows of the cave... well, not a large cat. He wasn't sure what to make of the figure who slinked back into the shadows. Glancing back, he saw that everyone appeared ready. He glanced over at Milo and smiled, though the leather covering his face now hid the expression. "We'll have to chat about where you come from when we get back. If you want to."
He then turned back to face forward and began to push the sled forward to take it out into the snow. "Let's go, Frostbite!"
SL2657F returned to her room to gather some of her surviving gear. She didn't have much that would be useful, but she figured she had tracking skills. She might be needed. It was what she was bred to do, after all. She was disappointed to return to the cavern to see the sled gone. She looked at the tracks as they pulled away from the cave then back at the others. She didn't know if she should go after them or not.

OOC: Great initiative! I'll post two new threads in a second, so the people who're out searching for the hunters get one thread and the people staying in the cave get another. Leaving this thread open until everyone in it feels they've finished with it Update: When you feel your elf/elves are done with this thread, either jump to: Rescue Mission (for those going to aid the hunters) or Waiting and Worrying (for those who're staying in the Holt, like Choice)

Choice watched elves leave for the raging storm outside, words of well-wishes and luck stuck in his throat. Flint's matter of fact words about death had hit him like a punch to the gut. All he could do was stand and stare, wrapping a fur tighter around himself, as others left the safety and warmth of the cave. He prayed to the High Ones that they all would come back safe. OOC: Choice is officially done with this thread and has moved to the "Waiting and Worrying" thread Waiting on confirmation and/or a final post from Milo , Crispin & Flint before I lock this thread.

He nodded, believing that they weren't dragging this out. Just was still new for him to be considerate of so many people, when before it'd only been Sapling to coordinate with. In his world no one went out to safe anyone, too dangerous and only a trap for more lost lives. Here at least he could do something, though words of reassurance could not be expected from him. It was Crispin who reached out to the group before they split it with a gentle **All will be well. Return safe and sound to us**. Having nothing more to actively do here, she'd return to the bath she'd been startled out by FarSights arrival, maybe inform Keleero any anyone else deeper in the mountain of the proceedings too.
(OOC: Out here with all my elves, continuing in the respective threads)
