By soon I mean "once our elves have settled a little and have gotten food sorted out". Also, please remember to take your elf out of the Recogintion Pool if you don't want them to Recognize this time around! This poll will be open until the 20th of September, so please voice your opinion before then!

I'm still, uh...wary of the idea. Just because we don't have a set time. When's this draw gonna happen? In the middle of the current thread, if it's still going this weekend? Or when we have decent food stores?
But I also admit that I'm a control freak and I have problems not knowing things. *laughs* So, uh, take it with a grain of salt.

Panaetha - sorry for being so vague about what 'soon' would mean! I did this poll pretty quickly and that's how the people who were discussing Recognition were phrasing it so I didn't think to be more exact. I did mean soon to mean soon. Why? Well I'm leaning on canon with this one: Whenever new elf tribes meet in canon there's almost always instant Recognition (Wolfriders meet Sun Folk, Wolfriders meet Gliders, Wolfriders meet Waverdancers - the only exception has been the Go-Backs, but they don't Recognize much anymore and there were still cubs to be had; Yun for example). It's as if the Recognition process goes "FINALLY, NEW GENES! TIME TO MAKE BABIES WHO AREN'T COUSINS!". So I think it would make sense for there to be at least one 'quick' Recognition with all our very different elves gathered in one place. Plus, it could make for a great additional conflict in the already big melting pot of culture shock that is our current game thread XD Is everyone okay with this? Tagging everyone else so no one misses this: Badger, Edgerunner, Jaseio, goldenbraid, @pyre, Rokuta, Silverthorn, Skye, Swift-Wind, Vareesi

Mm, I definitely agree that canon tells us Recognition should happen pretty quick! Perhaps more than one even. But then we also need to consider that Recognition also is supposed to "know" when conditions aren't great for baby-making, in the material sense. I'd think with all our elves being very stressed and outside their natural environment, it might take a bit for it to "catch" so to speak? OOCly, just, the current gathering thread is already very intense and a lot of subjects are getting brought up. I'd at least wait for it to come to some conclusions that'll allow smaller groups to break away from it, before hitting the elves with the next big thing. Also, Recognition right now would be a pretty huge public thing, which I don't know if all players would be happy with - though as I'm not in the pool this time, I may be totally off the mark with that!

I agree. Recognitions tend to be spontaeneous I mean look at Leetah and Cutter. You can't get more spontaeneous than that, barring the 'OMG Pretty Elf-Lady---MINE!' of Cutter being all possessive. He was a bit of a barbarian there.
I also agree on the resources thing. Plus in due consideration of the conflict already between our elves, well, hijinks will ensue and tempers will flare. I do wonder how the lucky pair and players will cope. XD.
It'll be interesting.
Timing wise. I don't mind either way.
All those in the draw have a fair chance of being knocked on the head by it.
Bring it on. XD.

Good points about the resources and stress! Recognition is a crafty thing, so I see the wisdom in it waiting a few moments longer. The Gathering Time thread did get more heated than I thought it would (and I think that's great!), so yeah we might put this off a little while longer. Not long, but until everyone has settled down and split into little groups. In fact, I think a great way to time the Recognition would be after the groups first successful hunt and/or other big score of food. That way 'Recognition' could go "No longer starving, MAKE WITH THE BABIES!" I'm starting the Recognition draw now, so watch out for a 'Congratulations!' message in the near future if your elf/elves are in the pool

Well... The thing about Recognition knowing when the conditions aren't great.. When Cutter met Leetah, the wolfriders had been under a lot of strain and stress too? And the elves here aren't in an immediately deadly situation: food is scarce at the moment, very scarce, and maybe for the coming months too, but it also takes time to make a little babuh~ And with what I have been reading in canon it seems to take a bit longer for an elf to be born compared to a human? Or have I misread something? xD Well anyway, it will just add to all the conflicts, maybe fuel the fire a bit, but it also might help solve some problems, for all we know? How that might come to be, I have no idea. XD And I also pretty much don't care about the timing, it will be interesting whenever it is to happen :b

Elves are pregnant for 2 years, so yeah they are a bit slower than humans Their pregnancy also doesn't start showing until a bit into the second year, so while the pregnant elf would have to be careful of course she wouldn't be too slowed down until late in the second year.

Recognition can be super dumb too. Final Quest, anyone? I agree with Joan's idea that we could even have two. And Recognition also may see fit to bond the tribe further with soul siblings. Possibilities.

Very true! We'll see how dumb this one will be I think the two players who end up with Recognized elves get to decide when the Recognition happens, so if you find yourself being it you can argue for what you think is most fun to play! I'm currently thinking up a fair, random way to get this done. Leaning toward giving everyone a number and then throwing a dice (I do have a lot of different RPG dice).

I just did a draw for Oakleaf, and I use random.org. I just put all the elves in the draw in alphabetical order and assigned numbers that way. So for us, I would have gone:
1 - Badger 2 - Choice 3 - Edgerunner 4 - Greywing 5 - Jaseio 6 - Juniper 7 - Keleero 8 - No-Sting 9 - Reefshadow 10 - Slinker 11 - Sunset 12 - Swift-Wind 13 - Tinder
(This list is without considering Swift and Edge's responses, just an example) If I drew elves played by the same player, I'd redraw. Same for same-sex elves (we do soul sibling draws, but not for that particular instance).

Thanks for the tip! random.org is such a useful site - it's how I got all the dates for the timelines over in my other Holt

You could split the group and do a separate draw for the boys and girls, getting one from each, although if a player does play more than one elf of the same or different genders, yeah you'll have to redraw.
Scary though!
I tried that random.org list randomizer and two of my elves came up each time near the top of the list.
>.<.
I was like WTF and then decided it was just teasing me and re-randomised a couple more times.
Second time was the same!
Gah!
I wonder if it's being jinxed by treewees.
