The Elves of Vineta don’t know many stories or other amusement, for they find they’re kind of useless. If one wants to dance, he will dance around the fire at the celebration of the Flooding, if one wants to sing, he will sing in the caves to use the echo and if one wants to tell stories he will tell them to anybody who wants to listen. But no one will do any of this if the time could be better used to survive, because they live with the knowledge that you can’t hunt with dancing, can’t fish with singing and can’t build something with telling stories. Nevertheless they know stories, songs and dances, most of them telling stories from the history of the Mangrove Forests People. Some of them I will share with you here, since Rokuta is no storyteller and won’t be too chatty about his people history.
The Creation of the World
First there was nothing.
The absolute Nothingness.
A Nothingness were nothing exists and nothing happens.
Then there where dark.
It was dark and it was night.
The first night ever, so jet black that no one would have seen anything.
But wherever dark is, there is also light.
Dark and Light united to form the seed of the first mangrove ever.
And the seed grows and grows, stretching all over the Nothingness,
collecting dark in his leaves and light in his roots.
Right in the middle of the Great Mangrove there grew a fruit, round and empty.
That was our world, but it missed every life. Yet.
The light warmed it, steam which was produced from the tree gathers around the stone, forming an atmosphere and the ocean. Spores from the night flowers of the Great Mangrove fall into the ocean and grow to plants and animals.
So life started. But the young planet felt lonely and begged the Great Mangrove to give him some companions. She did, as there were no reason to do not so and that’s how the twin sister moons Tuncay and Koray, the glowing day moons, and her brother Maris, the aquamarine night moon, were created. Loyal fellows they are, orbiting Vineta steadily until now. Since there are the moons, there are Floodings and that was the beginning of time.
for better imagination of the planet system:
The ones who fall first
As the saying goes every child once was a spore on Mother Mangrove’s flowers and everyone who dies becomes one with her again.
But there’s a tale about the first group of elves who started to live on Vineta:
Old man, who heard it from other old man when they were young, telling that they fall from the sky in an egg-shaped colorful and pearly shimmering fruit. The elves were already grown up to make it easier to them to survive on Vineta and there were some strange other non-elves with them. The elves had no problem with the circumstances, but all of the Earthlings (so they call trolls) died, because they could neither swim nor live under the sun. However, the little elves with wings (the Preserver) survived, for as they could fly. Like the elves who first fall from Mother Mangrove they changed, getting feathers all over and lost the ability to speak clearly, while the elves become much shorter and lost many parts of their magic, because they were to no use for them any longer. Yet they changed Vineta too, creating the cliffs where no land were, when some rock-shapers took out part of the land under the sea and set it upright on another place, to have a safety against the Floodings. And so the world stays a peaceful place with the safeness of Mother Mangrove around it.
