Since it came up during the Pini-elves/Recognition discussion, I thought I'd ask you what you think about levels of technology for our elves. The ones who come from Holts in the Beacon Call universe (right now Keleero and Silverthorn) has humans at the Bronze Age level, but what about other universes? Should we limit what levels of tech they can have?

My main concern is weaponry. Some future elf comes with a bunch of grenades, we just chuck 'em down the troll tunnels, bye bye trolls. Boring. XD Or with some kind of gun...anything from what the Djun is holding on the cover of Issue #4 of Final Quest to laser weapons...all you gotta do is sit in a tree and pick off the humans, and there goes that threat.

I agree with Panaetha. And in my opinion, someone from a really futuristic world couldn’t survive if he would be spirited away back to a world with a civilization of humans who are just out of the beast stadium. They wouldn’t know how to hunt, to fish, to live with nature or anything like that. Maybe they wouldn’t even drink water from rivers, because they think it’s dirty, but that depends on how close with the nature the future civilization would be.

I think if we could limit what technology people could bring, a character from the Rebels era would actually be quite funny for all those reasons. *chuckles* They'd have to relearn how to hunt, what to drink, how to live in a more primitive society, so on and so forth. It would be HILARIOUS.
Just no weapons. XD At the very most (for my comfort level), a laser weapon that has a charge that will only last three, four shots, or a gun with just a few bullets.

This is actually very relevant to me because the new character I'm making comes from a world with some modern day tech . But I agree that there should be some limits, because technology can be just like magic really, too powerful, wave it around and solve all the problems... basically I think limiting effects is more important than limiting actual tech. My elf, if he's allowed, is going to have a flashlight and some modern disinfectant, but both will only be good for so long and won't be able to have a huge effect. I'd be okay with an elf bringing in a gun, too, as long as they have limited bullets or power for their laser. Sounds to me like it should be more a case by case basis than hard and fast rules. But then I do really love the idea of elves from really different worlds having to adjust to the more "primitive" lifestyle here in the holt.

I think it could be fun to have elves from "the future" showing up. As has been said above, they'll have a hard time adjusting, but to me that's part of the fun I think your elf sounds interesting, Joan, and unless someone else has something against it, I don't mind the flashlight or the disinfectant. They'll both run out eventually, as you said. As for future weapons, let's make it a case by case judgement, with some hard limits (for example: no granades or bazookas).

I don't mind some simple tech, like the mentioned flashlight, etc. As long as the powers of the tech (just like magic) are limited.

So, this isn't exactly about technology, but it IS about time. We've already determined the possibility of elves being called by the Beacon who come from different points in time. Are we already seeing this with Skye and Tinder? Cuz...it seems like, according to the current major thread, Sunset is supposed to be older than Tinder. But if you look at their CISs, Tinder is a LOT older than Sunset...and once one of them notices, that could be a really interesting revelation for the tribe.

Yeah, I mentioned that to Sofia, too. I think its really cool to be able to pull people from different places in time, as well as universes - and different points on the same timeline.

LOL,
Nods Tinder is older than Sunset, though Sunset knew her technically as a cub in Sand Dune Valley and Wild Plains Holt. Now she's an adult, around two hundred years older than Sunset which will make things interesting all around too. Just a note though, Tinder's former tribe, led by her brother Dune (being Wild Plains) have a fairly rudimentary level of technology. It's kind of on par with the Pini's Sun village but with less houses and more fortified buildings. They had trouble with humans, once, before so the tribe is a mixture of elders, youths, and adults now.
They use the standard hunting equipment as in swords and spears and stuff. Nothing on the verge of grenades or guns though technically their magic is used in defence of the tribe, and magic-users, few in number though they are, generally follow Tinder's example and use their magical talents to practically help the tribe.
Losing her will be a blow to the tribe. Tinder was one of their strongest magic-users, and she is the best cook, potter, and tanner.
I see a few sad faces after the Beacon spirited her to Beacon Call.

So, to confirm; Sunset used to be older than Tinder, but now Tinder is older than Sunset. Cool. I dig it.

Another timeline thing people might not have noticed yet: Edgerunner and Jaseio were taken from different points in time from their, even though they appeared here at the same time. The 'tribe gathering' will have some nice revelations I think
