"I can't."
Those were words he understood, but he caught a glimpse of her blue eyes full of tears and his heart clenched. Tambri mentioned that the box seemed like it was...growing out of her? Or maybe fused with her, and he had an idea. She seemed scared of the box, like maybe it could do something to her, but he couldn't fathom what such a small thing could do. Still, it was clear to Reefshadow that the thing attached to her neck, color slowly shifting, was what prevented him from going to her.
"Maybe I can help," he murmured, as much to himself as the elves around him. As he slowly let himself inch closer to her, his focus so entirely on her that they might as well have been alone, he could feel the confused jumble of longing and fear and something about that damn box! He wished so badly he could understand her, but a rising certainty in his chest told him that that box was going to take her from him if he didn't do something. He just wished he could explain to Crispin what exactly it was, or what it did. He didn't know, himself, except that he was sure.
~**Yuki,**~ he gently spoke again to her mind. It was the best he could do, given the communication barrier. ~**Sweet one, Crispin is a healer, and is ready to give aid if she can. And I -**~
Would that scare her more? It didn't matter. He needed her to know what her options were. ~**I can shape bone. I do not know what this box does that scares you so, but if there is something we can do, something to save you from it, please -**~ He didn't finish his statement, but left his longing and desperation to fix whatever was going on so that he could just be near her, hold her, have her safe flood the bond between them.
