SL2657F brought this up in the shoutbox chat and I think it's a question we all should decide the answer to together The question:If the beacon takes an elf and any pets they may be touching, what happens if an elf is touching a human or a troll? Maybe they're friends. Maybe lovers. Maybe enemies in the midst of combat? Made me curious about how the beacon goes. Would the human/troll suddenly have no opponent or would they both appear? So, thoughts on this?

Well, we do already have it brought in Milo, half-human and Eryk came in in the middle of struggling with a snowcat - albeit that one was already dying. Humans and trolls I'd put on a "no" simply because that goes beyond a NPC that can be taken over by others. Someone would need to play those, unless we go and say the journey through the beacon kills them. (Whether we'd want full humans or trolls to be played is another question)

Very good points! I think it'd be magically possible for trolls and humans to be taken along by the Beacon, since we've already made the rules that all other kinds of creatures and objects (animals/sleds/bags/preservers) can get taken along. What we as a group need to decide is if we want that to happen in-game.
I wouldn't mind having fully human or troll characters in the holt, if they have someone who wants to play them. But agreed, bringing in animals (pets, bonds, prey or predators) along with new elves isn't a big deal since bonds and pets are played by their elf's player and wild animals can be fought or can escape off outside of the holt. Having a troll or human brought into the holt as a full-time NPC, even if they run off and hide somewhere, that's a lot of work to put on the group. Sharing the play of a preserver is one thing, but sharing a human or troll NPC character is more complex.
My suggestion is that we allow humans and trolls to be brought along by the Beacon if someone wants to bring that troll or human in as a character, like you'd bring in a new elf. Otherwise, I'd rather not - having NPCs in the tribe leads to more work and organizing than I personally feel up to ^_^'

I agree on that the possibility of trolls and full humans in a meta sense of things.
Personally I am opposed to have human characters to join the holt, even if someone wanted to play one. Trolls, well ... it depends. Would need an actual player though, too.

I do hesitate to say yes, let's have a human or a troll player character in the holt, but if it is limited to very few, and only in special circumstances it could be interesting. But the person coming through the beacon would be essentially bringing in two characters at the same time (unless they group up with another player to play the other character). It'd have to be someone who is active, and probably would want to keep hostility to a minimum so it doesn't make it not-fun to play.
It could bring a lot of interesting possibilities. I mean didn't Ember's tribe start allowing humans?

Okay, so what I'm hearing (and please correct me if I've misunderstood anyone!) is that we're all agreeing that it could be possible for a human or troll to be transported here but that there are mixed feelings on that as an actual thing happening in the game.
Should be establish this as a "case by case basis, never as NPCs brought into the Holt, and only approved as player characters if the person who wants to play the troll/human gets the okay from the whole group?"
Oh, and by "whole group" I'm thinking all currently active members, whenever the player asks the question.

Yeah, I'd leave it on a case-by-case basis. Especially since it largely depends on what the plan/outcome is going to be - friends? foes? lovers? longtime companions? Are they going to stay in the holt or run off, friendly to elves or not, how established is the holt as a home at the point in time (I imagine Keleero having a stroke if anyone suggests letting a human or troll in the sleeping quarters XD) We didn't had anyone wish for this yet, so no need to write too strict rules in when it might never happen.

Definitely should be someone who has been able to demonstrate they can and will be active barring any major life explosions because we do all know that those happen. But someone who posts once a week but not on all character is probably not active enough for that type of character.
