History: Tiger's Eye Pride was a pride of cat elves who had all sorts of blood mixes: panther, leopard, lion, and many others, but called Tiger's Eye because the pride was always led by an elf with tiger-blood. During one of the cold seasons, a great earthquake shook the land. The pride was fine and recovered quickly, but they soon found themselves host to a small group of gliders, led by a female named Qellara. They'd lived in a nearby mountain in secret and solitude, but the quake had severely damaged the inside of their mountain, and they needed shelter while repairs were made. The Tiger's Eye chief was wary at first, but had no choice but to accept the strange, bird-like elves when Qellara recognized Tailtwitch.
Two turns later, Panaetha was born. By then, the inside of the mountain had been repaired, and many of the gliders had departed. Qellara decided to stay for a time, but when Panaetha's gliding powers became evident, her mother took the mantle of leadership up again and moved back to the mountain. Most of her childhood was spent hopping between homes, an arrangement that pleased her parents, but Panaetha didn't feel much at home anywhere.
As she matured, she started to see that her mother's tribe was stagnating. Despite a bond with Tiger's Eye, they kept to themselves, and Panaetha had been the only child they'd seen in centuries...but they were still too stubborn to leave their nests. Panaetha refused to be restricted like that, so when she grew old enough, she chose to stay with her father's pride. One day, she heard a screech in the distance. They'd long grown used to the clutch of Great Hawks, but this was a screech like she'd never heard before. She flew to help and found an old hawk, with an older rider, crashed at the bottom of a peak. Bird and elf were both growing blind with age and had misjudged the height of the canopy of trees; the hawk's foot had gotten tangled in some branches and caused the crash. She knelt by the rider's side; the bird had knocked his head on a boulder and was thus saved a long death. The rider urged her not to try to help him, that it was his time and he longed to join the Palace. She looked at him, confused, not knowing how she could possibly help him, and he told her she had great healing powers, if she could only tap into them.
He died soon after, with Panaetha by his side. She flew back to the mountain and stormed in to a council meeting, then lectured the remaining Gliders on their stubborn nature and inability to break out of their cycle, then told them of the elder's death. She stomped out and didn't see them again for centuries.
Turns passed. Panaetha discovered that the old Glider was right, and she found her powers when her father became injured in a hunting accident. The tribe hadn't fully accepted her, due to her sporadic presence in the pride, but they did after she became their healer. Tailtwitch had another child, Altica, outside of recognition. Altica's mother died giving birth to her; she'd chosen to give birth in private, but she was a frail elf, and by the time her hiding place was discovered, she was too far gone for Panaetha to save. The half-glider stepped in to help her father raise the kit. More turns passed, and she finally felt at home in her pride. The gliders still lived nearby, unchanged. It was a starry, clear night when Panaetha was called by the Beacon, finding herself in a strange place, with strange elves, and an even stranger panther.
