OOC: Takes place on Day 12, just after the Beacon Room and Hot Water threads. All remaining elves are gathering in the Sleeping Room/Chamber/Cave (whatever your elf wishes to call it) to see who's left and who's vanished. It's currently evening approaching night, and the elves who've just vanished are: Goldenbraid, Nettle, Rokuta, Silverthorn, Slinker & Tinder. The Preserver Shinefind is in this thread!
IC: Keleero sighed and closed his mind off, ending the attempted lock-sending. "Silverthorn is gone. That, or he's managed to move out of my sending range since we last saw him."
He pulled the fur tighter around himself and leaned back against the wall, sitting as he was in one of the bed-bowls he'd shaped in this room. He felt numb. It wasn't that Keleero would miss Silverthorn as a friend or any such thing, but with the group dwindling in numbers and losing hunters... Things weren't looking good. "Has anyone else had better luck?"

Juniper shook his head. He had arrived when the call had come, and it worried him just as much as the bird-elf mentioned Silverthorn was not responding. "I have not seen Rokuta, although he was meant to help with the shelter outside." he said, his eyebrows forming a worried wrinkle. "I can only hope the vanished elves were beamed back to their respective homes."
The treeshaper leaned on the wall of the cave. "How many capable hunters do we have left?" he requested to know. "I can hunt, and surely the rest of the wolf-blooded elves can."

OoC: Assuming No-Sting is present. Let me know if she isn't and I fix. ~*~ "I can hunt..." Badger said and raised her hand, "But I am better at fishing." She was feeling a little sad about the disappearance of Silverthorn and many others. If she had had any more time with Silverthorn, she might have had a crush on him. The wolfrider maiden was glad she had not, though. It would have hurt more, if she had developed any deep feelings towards anyone. With these thoughts swirling in her mind, her grey gaze slowly turned toward No-Sting. * Why am I so worried about the disappearances?* she wondered, watching the tuft-eared maiden, * Especially if...* The wolfrider did not want to even think about it!

"I can hunt too," No-Sting said, feeling Badger's eyes on her like a weight. Not an unpleasant one, but definitely palpable. I'm glad she didn't vanish. High Ones, rotten magic is running wild here. What will happen next? Will we all grow tails and start digging burrows? Will the walls come alive and strangle us?
Trying to distract herself from Badger, No-Sting said: "Goldenbraid isn't answering my sendings. Can anyone else reach her?"

Choice sat in a corner, wrapped in a fur and shaking. The shock of Nettle's disappearance had begun to settle in his bones and made them ache. It felt like part of him had been ripped out and thrown to lions. He barely heard what the others were saying around him. He just sat and stared at the floor, tears streaking his face. His sobs were quiet and controlled - a changed from the hysterical crying that had overcome him when he'd first sat down here and gotten the fur wrapped around him. He couldn't even remember who'd given it to him. OOC: Choice isn't very talk-active right now, poor thing. Tagging Swift-Wind, Jaseio, Sefu, Swish, Mindlight, Sunset, Reefshadow, Greywing and Panaetha - no stress with posting, just don't want anyone to miss out on this thread Louw is still on hiatus, so anyone can feel free to say they sent to Edgerunner and he replied, but won't be coming to this gathering.

Panaetha entered the gathering cave, grateful that they were, at least, in the larger cave. With everyone worried about those who'd left, and worried about those who'd come, she felt even more anxious, as if the air of nerves in the cave just made her claustrophobia worse. She caught sight of Choice, huddled against a wall and trembling. The healer couldn't resist; she sat right next to him and wrapped one arm gently around his shoulders. She said nothing; what could she say? Oh, there were platitudes to give, a plethora of them...she could tell him stories of others who'd lost a Recognized mate. But she herself had never felt such loss, and she guessed her words would be of little comfort. All she could really do was sit with him...and it helped that her back was to the wall too, making the cave look larger than it was. She hoped he didn't mind her presence...and that Pardus and Sefu would be in soon as well.

Keleero felt some gratitude towards Panaetha as she tended to Choice. In his many millenia of life, Keleero had seen many a half of a Recognized couple grow violent and unpredictable in the wake of their mate's death. They really didn't need that on top of everything else, but Keleero did not have the skills of soothing necessary to handle such a delicate situation. Hopefully Panaetha did. "I am no hunter," Keleero readily confessed (he'd done his best to not flinch when Juniper mentioned wolf-blooded elves - so unnatural!). There was no use in pretending at a skill he'd prove uncapable at the moment he tried his hands at. But there was also danger in leaving such ignorance known without counter balancing it. Thus, he continued: "I have, however, found us hot water from the ground, for those who haven't heard that yet. I'll do my best to get our living quarters warmed up with it, as well as shape us baths. It should give us more protection from the cold outside." Looking around at the gathered faces, Keleero clenched his jaw not to groan in despair. Goldenbraid, Nettle, Rokuta, Silverthorn, Slinker and Tinder, all gone. Not quite half of their number, but close enough to unsettle greatly. Less mouths to feed, yes, but also less hunters and fishers to help with bringing food stuffs to the mountain. As if they hadn't been in enough trouble to begin with! OOC: Another quick tag shout-out to the elves still in the Holt who haven't posted here yet: Swift-Wind , Jaseio , Sefu , Swish , Mindlight , Sunset , Reefshadow , Greywing

Somehow Sefu had managed to get his sore, hurting body up on Pardus’ back and the panther had let him ride him into the other room. Pardus had decided to lie beside Panaetha and so Sefu shuffled off him as best as he could and unto the cold stones. He ignored the chill going through him and decided to sit quietly and take in all the other elves. It had been so long since he had been around just another elf and now.. Now he was surrounded by them. He just listened to them, took in the haunted faces, their numbers, and whatever they would have to say, and prayed to a higher entity that none would want to punish him for anything he did not know.

Choice huddled into Panaetha's embrace, grateful beyond words for the warm comfort she offered. It had been so, so long since he had another to turn to with his grief, although this grief was a fresh and terrible one. Even though he couldn't claim to know Panaetha well, the one arm hug she had for him left him speechless by more reason than sorrow.
In his grateful - though still grief stricken - state, Choice had no presence of mind to acknowledge or even notice Sefu entering the cave. Instead, he kept his face buried against Panaetha's shoulder and cried on. It felt like the tears would keep coming until he was left an empty, dried-out husk.

Post by Jaseio on Jan 21, 2016 0:42:29 GMT 1
Jaseio had given the colourful child her jacket to cover up with and put him under the furs. It was strange to see how this child had just taken everything in stride, and even felt secure enough to sleep in the vicinity of so many strangers. Though he had been scared at first it seemed like the child had already adapted to this new place. While covering up Swish she had tried to send to Edgerunner. He had received her sending she knew, but he wasn’t answering her and she had pushed her sending as far as she could have manage to reach him. Was he still mad at her for blaming him? Or was he just avoiding everything? She sighed and resigned to not getting an answer to that right now.
“Edgerunner is alive and he is still here, but he won’t answer me,” She said, looking forlornly down at her hands before she continued, “I can hunt, but we also have need of as many pelts and leathers as possible, so I have to take care of that, but if there is a lull I might be able to help hunt.”
She wasn’t sure what to feel about those who had disappeared. She hadn’t really known them well, but she would still miss having those around she had gotten to know slightly, like Tinder. She would definitely remember Slinker for the bow and quiver-full he had given her. She would try and put it to good use when she had a chance. Choice’s grief tore at her heartstrings: she had felt the same not long ago, though she couldn’t proclaim to know how it felt to be torn from a recognised and she was sure that would only hurt so much more.

Swift-Wind wasn't sure what to do. She was kind of zooning out through the things happening. It had been too much for her. Then suddenly she noticed that people seemed to be telling the others if they could hunt or be helpful with other things, so she answered to the question she hadn't heard "I am not a particularly good hunter, but I can fish and I am quite a good tracker, if that's needed?"
OOC: Thanks for reminding me of this thread. I have been having a bit much too do, so I have forgotten to write here.

"Do not speak so lowly of yourself, sister," No-Sting said. "A hunt will go very poorly if there is no prey to hunt." Her thoughts darted briefly to the possibility of being sent home herself. Juniper had said he hoped those gone had done just that and it was getting harder and harder to ignore such ideas. What a joy it would be to be home, but... What if she disppeared and Swift-Wind didn't? Or the other way around? And what if Badger... Not the time! No-Sting shook her head at herself. This was not the time get lost in thoughts and wishes. "Mindlight is out hunting and Reefshadow is putting up traps. They seem good at that. Should bring back food too. And Sunset..." She had no idea where Sunset was in that moment. "She too is a tracker. We'll be fine, I'm sure." She wasn't. But saying such things when everything lay in ruins like this wasn't something she planned to do. "And yes, as Jaseio said, we could use more clothes and furs, to stave off this cold. We're not all suited to it." She had long since realized she and Swift-Wind were among the few with clothes fit for snow. More than a few seemed to be from places that never had seen snow, strange was that thought was. "We need a plan. A new plan, now that we're fewer in numbers." OOC: Stephanie seems to be busy, so I've put her elves outside the Holt for the moment. Tam, is Greywing here in the cave or out hunting too?

Choice's pain was a lot to handle. Badger was feeling sad for the lad, but did not say anything, as he had comfort already in Panaetha. Briefly, her eyes met with No-Sting, and the wolfrider could only wonder what she was thinking. Blushing lightly, Badger turned to look at others as in to register what they were saying. At the very least it seemed they had many elves with different skills, but if even one disappeared again, the group might be lacking someone vital. "I think we should try and teach each other our skills as best as possible. It would be devastating, if we lost ... say ... a tanner." She looked at Jaseio and shrugged a little. "How about the magic users?" she then said out "I have no contact to magic myself, at that, but how many do we have of healers and shapers?"

Juniper did not pay much attention to Choice, although his loss was a heavy burden for the whole group. The wolfrider male had noticed slight twitch from bird-elf's direction, but had not paid that much attention. Last thing he was going to do, was to grace the pure-blooded elf's disgust with attention. It seemed like at least he hunters were well provided, as he listened to the group talk.
Some others did not say anything, like the pretty boy with the panther, but it was not Juniper's duty to shake them up and spill the beans. Badger asked about magic users and teaching each other about things they knew best. Lightly, the treeshaper nodded and then raised his hand.
"I am a treeshaper, and I can teach about some plants... Of course, the season is not the best for it." He did not quite dare to mention the lost elves' names in the group, although this discussion was partially about them. One of the lost elves had left some seeds behind, and Juniper decided he would make it his project to see what he could grow in the caves.

"All right, I can help find prey quite well" Swift-Wind responded to No-Sting's comment. She was quite happy about her sister putting her up like that. It made her feel of use. Still, she wondered how come everyone seemed so comfortable with the use of magic. She did not know if she should mention that she in fact could levitate things, though she was not good at it. So she asked No-Sting ~**Should I say anything about the fact I can use magic?**~ And being exalted about the fact that Juniper could treeshape she asked: "You can treeshape, are you good at it?", forgetting not to display her emotions.
