No-Sting was taken aback by Swift-Wind's question. With the strange situation they'd found themselves in these past three hands of days, she'd not given Swift-Wind's magic a single thought. How could I let myself ignore something so important?!~**I'm not sure,**~ she sent back to Swift-Wind, very much unsure indeed. It was no secret back home, but no joy either. The Tuftear Clan had many legends of what magic could do when it went bad; and it always seemed to in the end. But this...this place had been very different, with people using magic openly without shame or fear. ~**It could perhaps be good. Don't want to seem like we're keeping secrets, right?**~ She meant to say more, but caught eye of something very strange moving around in the newly arrived, brightly color elf child's hair. "By the High Ones, what is that?!" Shinefind gave a squeak and burried itself into Swish's hair. "Shinefind is Shinefind! Care for small sleepy-sleepy Highthing. Big Highthing too loud!" OOC: Quick reminder - Shinefind, as a preserver, is free to play for everyone who wants to (but it's not a must). Just try to keep its actions consistant and its speech preserver-y

Greywing leaned against a stone wall as she listened to the others worry over the elves who had disappeared. There were good ideas...figuring out who could use what magics, who had what skills, the idea of teaching each other, just in case. She wasn't sure what she had to contribute...nothing more than anyone else, anyway. She scanned the room, seeing everyone seemed to have someone they were close with. Panaetha and Choice...two of the cat-elves. Others the recognized but whose names she could not recall.
A flutter of color and an exclamation distracted her from dwelling on feeling lonely. "A Preserver...!"
Shinefind looked up at Greywing, surprised that someone else had recognized it for what it was. Snuggled in Swish's hair, it flapped its wings slowly and smiled widely.
Greywing stared back, almost in awe. "This is a gift...Preservers stayed in the Palace with the rest of the Originals, but their cocoons can preserve meat for us, or be spun into silk. We could make...all sorts of things without even leaving these caves."

Swift-Wind was glad to learn No-Stings response. She could tell the others to use magic, without ending up quallering with her sister about it.
Just as she was about to say something of it, a small creature appeared and she lost focus. Staring at the little one. Amazed when Greywing said what it was she said "But that's great! Right?".

"I am somewhat good." Juniper replied to Swift-Wind. "Not all-over-powerful, of course. My skills are limited." The attention turned into the Preserver, and Juniper sighed a little. As useful as the critters were, they were also annoying -- at least on his opinion. "Not leaving the caves sounds a little stagnating to me." he then commented to over all discussion, "I think we should venture out." Juniper's opinion was mostly biased -- he had never ever lived in caves, and he felt like the world around them should be explored, just to keep the dangers and options clear.

Keleero had to agree with Greywing - a preserver was an advantage. "You are must welcome among us, preserver," he said, giving Shinefind a nod.
The preserver gave a shrill chirp in reply, which seemed to vocalize pleasure at being addressed. "Highthings no worry! Shinefind here! Shinefind help! Make wrapstuff!"
Keleero gave it another nod, glad that this had been the end of its speech. Preservers' voices were highpitched enough that their talking could grate on the ears if it kept up too long.
Hearing Juniper speak of leaving the caves, all blood left Keleero's face and rushed into his legs. The thought of going outside was bad enough, but living there...! The mere thought turned Keleero's stomach. "I understand not all are comfortable here in the caves," he hurried to say as Juniper fell quiet, "but I personally should like to stay. We have hot water now, so I shall be able to make heating for the floors and walls. And I can shape more bed-bowls should it be needed. So anyone who wishes to stay in here will find warmth and a place to sleep."
Keleero prayed to the High Ones that they wouldn't all leave for the forest and strand him alone in the caves with the Beacon. If warmer weather came they might go in search for their old homes - and maybe he would too? - but as long as it was winter and they all needed each other he'd feel better if they all stayed inside when not out hunting. It would just feel...safer, more like home. As if "home" is safe...

Badger took a note of the tone of Keleero, when Juniper had mentioned venturing out. She would have placed her hand on Keleero's arm, but as she was on the other side of the room, she did not.
"I am afraid I agree with Juniper... On some points, that is." she then chimed out, "I don't like to sleep closed in with rocks, but I only mean that I will sleep outside in a tree den, if the good shaper makes us some." Badger looked at Juniper, who nodded in return as a sign of understanding. "I am not personally ready to investigate too far out, although I think I would like to know more about the closest surroundings of this cave."
She looked at Keleero. "So, these caves would be like a base, and no one should have to worry about being left alone."

"The caves as a point to start out from, sounds good to me," No-Sting said, finding herself eager to agree with Badger. "This is were all other elves will arrive, should more come. Could be good to keep an eye out here, if any of them show up injured. And if Keleero can make this place warmer, I'm all for staying here until winter is over."
She was eager to get home, back to the rest of the Tuftear Clan, but she also wasn't eager to spend too much time out in the snow. She was well used to cold and ice, as well as snow, and this more than anything is what made her wish to remain somewhere steady and familiar. Snow could hide many things, many traps, and who knew what other rotten magic this place had to offer? Better stay here, where the rotten magic was known, and wait for new-green before heading out too far into the forest. Who's to say one of the trees wouldn't get up and walk away in the night, with elves still inside its tree-dens?!

Panaetha wrapped her other arm around Choice as he huddled into her, holding him close. She kept one ear open to the conversation...it was difficult not to, with the strange, screeching voice of whatever this new creature was. But she could be brought up to date later. Right now, her main concern was the sobbing elf in her arms. She continued to say nothing to him, only sending a gentle stream of reassurance and safety to him, and him alone.

Greywing lifted her eyebrow at Juniper and put her hands on her hips, annoyed that he'd interrupted her wonder over the Preserver. "Of course we should venture out, we cannot stay in these caves indefinitely! I was only hoping to illustrate how valuable a Preserver can be; it can preserve food for us, we can make cloth from its webs, and if we are trapped in here, by the whitecold or by humans, or who knows whatever lurks in this land, at least a Preserver can help us prepare stores to keep us alive." She rolled her eyes and huffed. The blonde treeshaper seemed stuffy and short-sighted. At least others recognized the value of the admittedly ear-piercing creature.
As they continued to discuss living situations, Greywing had to agree; the caves were the best place for them. Whatever skills these elves had, nothing compared to the caves for warmth and shelter. Why put more energy into living outside when the caves were available? "I will stay here as well...when the whitecold lifts, other living arrangements can be discussed."

Choice burried closer to Panaetha, deaf and blind to the rest of the cave and the conversations taking place. Even the reveal of the preserver didn't pull him out of his soul-crushing grief. His only thoughts were of his Recognized and their unborn cub - gone, probably forever.

Juniper glared at Greywing, his gaze saying 'Don't take that tone with me, cub', but he did not say it out loud. His desire to leave grew only greater, plus there was his bias of not preferring rocks over breathing and alive things. "Nevertheless, the den tree would not be too far away from the caves" he said, only to assure Keleero.
"Any other things we need to discuss?" he then asked. "I might try to build up a garden in the caves, but I can't wait for spring, so I can see what kind of things grow in the forest naturally."

It took Keleero's mind a moment to catch up with what was being said - the fact that he'd so clumsily expressed his discomfort with being left alone in the caves distracted him. Stupid of him! Exposing a weakness like that would come back and bite him later, he was sure of it. At least the conversation had moved quickly away from who had what magic. Not that Keleero's skills were a secret, but he prefered not to have others dwell on them. Rockshaping Keleero had nothing against, but he prayed to the High Ones no one would suggest he join Panaetha in flying a scouting round. "It seems we've established who is with us and who is not," he said softly once there was a lull in the conversation. "Mayhaps it is best for us all to retire to our tasks? With this loss I fear we need to work twice as hard to stay...safe." Such a mocking word under these circumstances. OOC: I suggest we wrap up this thread and have those who wish to make smaller threads after it, for elves to talk about this in smaller groups, should people want to

No-Sting nodded in agreement with Keleero. With so many strange things going on - elves vanishing, tiny creatures with wings appearing - she'd prefer to keep busy, now that they'd established who'd disappeared and who was left. She needed to do something!

Swift-Wind was glad that they were about to move out. She didn't like being stuck inside like this doing nothing. The Preserver, it seemed, could be of great use and Swift-Wind sincerely hoped it would. She also noticed JUnipers sadness, or whatever it was, over the fact that the attention quickly had moved to the Preserver. Out loud Swift-Wind said "Good thing to move outside and find out more about this place. A tree-shaper like you Juniper could come in handy."

Badger nodded, even if she did not have anything else to discuss. Moving back to her tasks was a good idea for now. The maiden wanted to keep her hands, head and heart busy... rather that than thinking of who was the next to vanish. Her gaze moved slowly at the tufted ears of No-Sting again, but Badger ripped her gaze off of her, before anyone would notice her staring.
At least, the brunette wolfrider HOPED no one had noticed her staring.
A faint blush appeared on her cheeks, but she decided to announce she was going to leave the meeting. "I, ah, I will be attending to my things now." she said, stammering a little. It was better to say something, than to let others think she'd vanished.
