Badger nodded at the notes of moving along the stream and about the net. Net would make things so much easier, but at the moment, they were rather under-prepared for anything. Heading downstream, the wolfrider pondered how soon they could create a net. She was not too talkative to begin with, and the company of the grey-skinned female and the beast unfamiliar to her made the brunette even more silent -- not entirely bad perk for her being a fisher, but maybe a little rude or ill-mannered in presence of others.
After a little while, she noticed a part of the stream a little more calm after the waterfall and rapids soon after, and she pointed at the spot. "Would this be a good place to fish?" she asked with a hushed tone.

Panaetha nodded in response to Badger's question. "Yes, this would work just fine...now, we simply wait." The walk down the river and the silence that joined it was not at all unpleasant or rude to the glider; she wasn't much for chit-chat either, and while she was sure that her hunting companion and the other elves were perfectly pleasant, she had no intention of getting very close to anyone. Once she got her bearings in this new place, she would leave and find her pride.
"See these indentations and holes here? These are good places for fish to hide. Were I home, I would tie a colorful feather or a piece of raw meat to a sinew line and lure the fish out that way, but I only have my talon whip. We'll have to sit and wait for the fish to come out on their own." Panaetha pointed out the appropriate spots to Badger, then fell quiet again. With a gentle kick off the ground, she lifted into the air and circled from one side of the river to the other side, trying to figure out which spot was best to settle in. Circle after circle, pondering each of the pros and cons of each spot...then finally deciding it best, both for strategic fishing and for staying close to her hunting companion, to settle on the same side Badger stood on. She floated down to the ground, settling into a kneeling position, and peered unblinkingly into the water.

OoC: Sorry for the recent absence. Certain RL things had a bad timing.

Waiting in silence was something Badger was very good at. Patience was always a virtue in such a task as fishing. She got as comfortable as possible, hoping she would have had carried some sort of a weapon suitable for fishing, like a club or a spear. A mental shrug to the thought, maybe later it would be possible to acquire such items. The wolfrider kept an eye in the water, taking a note at the hiding holes the grey-skinned female had pointed out. Maybe soon enough something would appear snooping -- did fish even snoop? -- from the holes.

Panaetha stared the water down, her eyes not straying from the little river cave. Some of the more impatient members of her tribe would stick their hands in these holes and flail their hands around a bit until the fish bit down on their fingers; despite the practice being common, they would always yank their arms out of the water with a screech. It was a faster method, but more painful, certainly. For now, there was no need to rush...they all needed to find their ways back to their respective tribes, but they wouldn't be able to do that on an empty stomach.
Soon enough, one unlucky fish peeked out of its hiding place. The cat-elf deftly snatched it from the river and severed its head with her sharp claws. She felt a little remorse for the creature; a kill with a knife would have been cleaner, but members of her pride were taught to survive with nothing but what the High Ones gave them. That included more gruesome kills, but they killed swiftly, and only when necessary.
She beckoned Pardus over, and he padded towards her, licking his lips. "You just get the head," she told him, keeping the body away. It wasn't a large fish...it would give her and Badger a decent snack, at most. But she figured she could spare the head. The panther gulped it down.
"We're going to need to find some tubers, or roots, or fruit...something to tide us over. Fishing isn't going to be enough, if it keeps going this slowly..." Panaetha complained. She liked those things well enough, but fruit was a treat, and tubers and roots were usually only eaten in her pride when meat was scarce...it was drought food. "I hope the other elves are more successful," she continued, but was interrupted by the panther.
Pardus pawed at the dark elf's hand, still a bit bloody. He'd lowered himself to the ground, freeing his paws to grab at her; Panaetha knew better than to jerk away. The panther gingerly licked the blood from her fingers with his rough tongue. She waited patiently, almost nervously, for him to finish. Clearly, the two had some sort of connection, but it didn't feel like a normal bonding. However, Panaetha hadn't had a bond cat for more turns than she cared to count.

Badger watched in awe, when the fish got caught and severed with one flick of claws. She had not been blessed with anything like that, but she did not feel inferior about it. She looked at the strange stars, keeping her distance from the large cat. "Fishing is slow, yes..." she agreed, mentally giving herself a telling of not carrying a net with her. Net would have made things easier. The maiden sighed a little, and nodded when fruit and roots got mentioned -- although she was not sure of the terrain and if anything was available.
"They might be hard to find as well. I just wonder what kind of prey animals reside here." Badger said with a hushed tone.

Pardus eventually finished cleaning Panaetha's hand, and he sat back and crossed his paws, resting his head on them with an almost annoyed huff. The cat-elf just turned away and shrugged before responding to Badger. "Indeed," she sighed, looking into the trees. "Even the trees are strange here...sharp thorns instead of leaves, the bark feels different, and they don't...sprawl, like the trees in my pride. It is easy to jump from tree to tree at home, with some of the branches of different trees twining together, the forest acting as one. But these trees...they stand straight and tall, solitary and sharp." It made Panaetha feel as if the trees were against her. If they bore any fruit, could they even eat it?
She stared into the darkness of the forest, wondering what other dangers lurked in this unexplored territory. She'd almost got caught in a spike trap...not only were the trees against her, but the ground as well. What was next, some magic in the air that would keep her from gliding?
Panaetha looked back at the water rushing below her. "I don't think we have much choice...fishing will have to do for now." She knew that catching fish bare-handed wasn't the best method, but she wasn't ready to admit the potential need to make new supplies. She would help feed these elves, feed herself, and then go. That's all.
