As much as he would like to help Spotfur with her neck collar, Milo wasn't sure how – he had no skills to do so and there probably was a reason for none of the others to do it yet. Even if it was just a matter of miscommunication, it would probably be better to wait until the others returned, everyone accounted for and the new ones introduced properly.
They would have spotted a lone bear pelt, so Nightbirds was likely lost by the beacon. At least she hadn't left some person important to her behind. “We have people of many skills here. I'm sure it can be replaced.” Not by him. The young one still felt fairly useless in this holt, with most of what he had learned being more used by humans than elves. Helping to care for the cubs would hopefully help to offset that a bit more.
“<A bear is a big animal. Big as the giant wolf or Mahraks tiger, but even heavier.>” he started to explain quietly to Spotfur. “<They walk on all fours and live in caves. Hunt other animals, but forage for berries too. And they sleep through all of winter. Their fur is very thick and warm, good to keep the cold and wet off.>” He remembered a bear fur being laid out in his grandfathers halls and how he liked to sprawl out on it, burrowing his face deep into it to try and catch the scent of long-gone forest. Back before his life went in a lot worse direction.

"<Ah, a bear... Yes... They made some of us bear-bloods as well.>" She knew what a bear was, but the word in elvish was new to her. She repeated it, heavily accented, but understandable. "<The one with the big wolf... He had some furs... Maybe one is a bear fur? I... I didn't look closely.>"
SL2657F tilted her head slightly. "<Thank you... for talking to me like this... The bug is... hard to understand sometimes.>"

Bones huffed softly and Nightbird wrinkled her nose at him before looking back to the others.
"It's less the pelt and more the things that were wrapped in it, in my pack. I use it to keep my tools safe while I travel..."
She trailed off, chewing the inside of her cheek, surveying the room one more time. No pack.
"Is it always so cold here?" The raven haired elf scooted closer to the large wolf, trying to keep herself between him and the fire for warmth.

"Hopefully we can help you make new tools," Choice said, going for cheerful and almost hitting it. There had been too much tension and change already this evening. "What do you use the tools for? Maybe we have some spare ones you could borrow until you've made yourself new ones." Not terribly likely, but the last thing this situation needed was a negative attitude, in his opinion.
He still kept an eye on Milo and Spotfur, noting that they seemed to be talking about bears – likely because of Nightbird's lost bear pelt. That should be a safe enough topic to not cause any upsetting misunderstandings.
At Nightbird's next question, Choice had to laugh a little. "I wish I knew. We've only been here for, oh, a moon's turn? It's been cold thus far, but things could change any day I've been told. The storm isn't usual though. It's the worst one I've seen here. Was it cold where you came from?"

“<I know how it is to not be understood.>” he reassured her quietly. Took him time to learn elvish too, only easier because he could send, this transcending language, bringing understanding without words. “<There's others here who can too. Crispin understands, she just doesn't speak.>” A shame. The healer would be better suited than him to do this, surely not afraid to do this wrong.
“Only winter.” Milo chimed in on the newcomers complains. “And a particular bad storm today at that. It'll pass.” Seasons always did, for all it could be frustratingly slow. But he trusted that it would. Had to, because spring and summer would mean he could get out of this cave, avoid Keleero.

OOC: Just a quick check-in: do we want to wrap this thread here and jump to a post-rescue reunion thread, or keep this thread going?

OOC: I'm all for a post-rescue thread to be honest.

OOC: Okidoki! Leaving this thread open a few more days in case Nightbird has something to add, then I'll lock it and we can see about starting a post-rescue thread
