Dance and Sneak eyed Spook warily. They kept at a distance, starting to get used to strange animals spending time around elves that Choice decided to interact with. Dance pranced to unsure steps, still not used to snow, while Dance began to pace back and forth, ready if the stranger should lunge at them. Choice chuckled at Mahrak's comparison. **I hadn't seen a fox before I got here. For me, they look like very small maned-wolves. The world is full of such strange wonders!** Choice's smile froze at the mention of humans. Tambri seemed to have a healthy caution of them, but Mahrak... Oh dear, another human friend? Or someone who's never encountered them? Choice hated doubting such friendly and kind elves as Jaseio and yet he couldn't find it in himself to believe humans ever could be friendly. They were a threat, best avoided. **It's good you've been covering your tracks, then,** he sent after he got over the initial shock of the news. **I've not known them to come this close to the holt before. Did you see them?** Maybe they should send out a scouting party to see how close the humans had gotten? At the very least, everyone in the holt would have to be warned. **Please, let me help you with the branch-horn so we all can get back home safely.** He positioned himself to assist in tipping the branch-horn off the strange lion-like beast.

**No, we didn't see them. The scent is on the arrow. They were close enough that this branch horn got this close after being struck. If you two take it back, I can scout for them...** Tambri was willing to do that because, while she didn't know these elves, she knew humans were a threat, a danger, and Mahrak seemed too curious thank his own good. He'd end up captured and sacrificed, or if he was lucky he'd be killed outright. **I've dealt with tracking them before...** A few times. Not often. She'd prefer to avoid if at all possible.

Tracking humans! That sounds like an adventure if there was one to be had. Too bad Choice couldn't take the branch-horn back with him on his own, even with Longsleep's help. They'd need at least two pairs of hands to steady the hulk on the litter. **I've known branch-horns to be fast and strong runners, even wounded. You might have to track far from the holt,** he sent, partly because he did think it a possibility, but mostly because he'd hate for Tambri to go off on such a thrilling hunt on her own and him be left with the cleaning of the prey. Hopefully he'd been able to keep that last part out of his sending. **Why don't we all head back to the holt and see that this great kill of yours is tended to first?** he wheedled. **I'm sure the tribe have guards posted to make sure no dangers come too near the holt. And wouldn't it be better to have someone with you that knows the forest around here, when you track?** And that way he'd be able to argue to come along as well. He might not have the magical sense that Flint had, but he'd know for sure where he'd recently worked his magic and easily be able to find his way back to where they'd killed the branch-horn. Not the only tracking there was, of course, but perhaps enough of an argument... OOC: Leaving it open to you if Tambri notices Mahrak's jealousy at her possibly going off to track humans

Choice nodded along with Mahrak. Tambri seemed a capable elf, and knowledgeable of humans if she knew them by scent, but Choice would hate for her to risk herself so. **Yes, every elf that stays close to the holt keeps eyes-high for threats. We do not have 'guards' as such, but we keep ourselves safe.** Maybe they should have guards? Maybe they should have another circle sit-down, to talk things through. It had been many days since that first one, when he'd-
He cut off that thought-path, not wanting to bring back the grief the memory of his Recognized carried with it. **Together it will be quick work to get the branch-horn back home, since you've already carried it so far. I suggest we do that and then worry about tracking the humans. Dance and Sneak will circle back a few paces behind us, keep a watchful eye out. They know the scent of humans and the wind is in our favor.** He paused. **If your bond-friend will permit it?** The wolf with Tambri had not seemed happy to see Sneak and Dance. Choice would hate to provoke a fight between bonds, if he could avoid it.

**Don't be so eager to meet a human, Mahrak. They will kill you without a second thought. They aren't curious about us, they hate us.** Tambri reluctantly nodded. Choice's and Mahrak's words were both wide regarding the hunt. It would be better to let the others know what they found rather than go off alone. **Let's go. The sooner we get this branchhorn back, the sooner we can be sure the path isn't followed.**
Spook, for his part, was circling, barely coming into view as he moved throughout the trees, his white fur causing him to blend in.
**Spook... should... allow it.**

Mahrak almost snorted at Tambri's warning. He managed to stop himself before he could, seeing as making noise now wouldn't exactly mark him as a good hunter. **Don't worry yourself about me,** he sent back, completely at ease if tired out from the hard physical and magical work this hunt had proved to be. **I might not look it, but I'm good at keeping out of sight and eyes-high. In my old tribe I was a guard, kept watch for signs of avalanches and ice-bears. I won't go running after them while baying at the top of my lungs or anything.** But he definitely would go for a search for humans. After all this talk, he absolutely had to see one for himself. He made ready to assist in lifting the branch-horn over to the litter, bracing himself for yet another push. Longsleep had long since begun panting and it would be a relief to let his bond-friend breathe easier. OOC: This thread seems to wrapping up soon Shall we time- & place-jump over to the mountain/right outside the mountain for a follow-up on this or would you rather time-jump further into the future?

**Having an experienced guard around is valuable.** If said guard could be convinced to stay put and watch for danger, not go chasing after it. Choice had just met Mahrak, of course, but from what he could tell, Mahrak look like an elf who could be too curious for his own good. Choice knew that look far too well - he'd seen it sent back to him when he was much younger and more foolish.
**Humans are indeed dangerous. We should keep well away from them.** Tambri and Mahrak would likely soon discover that not all in the holt shared that sentiment, but that was a discussion for another time. They had a branch-horn to cart home and tracks to cover.
::Go, search, humans. Keep safe,:: Choice sent to Dance, and to Sneak. She didn't hear his sendings as often, not being his bond-friend, but even when she didn't hear she took cues from what her mate did and followed suit.
The two maned wolves took cautious steps toward where Spook was, on edge both because of the promise of humans in the vicinity and of the wolf's previous hostility. They were two against one, but one of them heavy with cubs and the other not much of a fighter. They'd not take any chances.

Spook immediately asserted his perceived Alpha status and took the lead. Tambri flinched and sighed. She turned her attention back to the branchhorn and the other elves. Mahrak was too curious for his own good. She would have to keep an eye on him.
OOC: ok with time jump forward either to just back to the caves or even after cleaning and dividing up the kill. Whatever works.
Sorry this was really short, not sure what else to have her do at the moment.

OOC: Sounds like this is the place to stop then! I'll start a new thread a-sap after the kill has been cleaned and those who wish to can go scouting for humans.
