Fireriders
Leadership:
Council and chieftess: generally the council is able to agree, but the chieftess has the last word in any case. The council consists of the elders, but also some of the herds most talented/experienced younger elfs.
Type of elves:
Pureblooded, a few rare ones mixed with humans. Average height is around 4’1”-4’6” for females, and 4’3”-4’9” for males. The human mixes are often taller. The skin is tanned but not dark, and they have varying hair colours, but usually have purple/-ish or violet eyes. Some males are able to grow beards.
Soul Names:
They know their soul names from birth
Random Info:
none yet.
Recognition:
Recognition is needed in this tribe to reproduce, and Recognitions are few and scarce in this people, since they live very long lives. Recognitions are usually celebrated, and the recognitions often result in lifemating.
Location:
It is in another dimension, on an unnamed planet, on an unnamed island.
They are wanderers living on a large volcanic island. The climate varies and is generally cold and harsh, but the south of the island is generally warmer, wetter and windier than the north. All seasons occur, but the winter’s are harsh, and occasionally the summers are hot. The central parts of the island are the coldest, but it is also here that the volcanoes rise up. It is near these volcanoes that the elves have their whitecold period homes: caves shaped by ancestors near some hot springs. Most of the seasons they spend as nomads, and following the horses that they herd, only leaving them, to find them again, after the harshest periods of Whitecold. Some of the horses may choose to stay with their riders, and live in the caves with the elves, occasionally going out to find food under the snow.
The humans on this island is in the early middle ages, and have a culture similar to the Vikings.
(The horses on the island are pretty much based of the Icelandic Horse. They have no natural predators on their island, and so they don’t in this world and therefore they generally do not fear big predators. It’s pretty stupid to not fear a wolf or large feline but that’s how they work :b For more info, use Wikipedia, the article on Icelandic horses is pretty reliable :3)
Culture:
The tribe is generally still able to elf-send, only rare ones are not able to, and those are often human blooded. They have both sound and word names. There has been some rare, but really strong shapechangers, and elves born with very weak animal communication are seen very often, and it isn’t quite unseen to have been born with average animal communication, but it is still extremely rare for one to be born with strong powers in this magic. Other types of magic are even rarer. A few rare elves are so in their element in the cold weather that they don’t mind the cold nearly as much as the others.
Births aren’t many in this tribe, so every birth is celebrated with dancing and feasting around a big fire, and when the elfling reaches the age of learning how to ride, they may be part of the Steedchoosing. Deaths are few, and are often results of accidents, or the fact that the elf was a mix, and therefore not immortal.
The Steedchoosing happens every year when the elf herd merges with the wild horse herd again after the whitecold period. Anyone who has reached the age of riding, and is either getting his/her first steed, or one who has lost a previous horse, can be a participant in the event. Other elves, act as helpers or are just spectators. The horse can have any age, and so even a foal may choose a rider. Those who have no, or too weak animal communication, has helpers to help them find a fitting steed. Elflings, who haven’t tried it before, can choose to have an adult to support them, as it might be a overwhelming experience for a young one, with all the horses galloping towards them.
This herd of elves has grown very fond of their horse companions, and has had a steady, and friendly relation to the humans living on the island. They learned things like hunting, crafting, and cooking from the humans. They often trade with the humans, and sometimes intermingle with each other, and some rare times an elf has chosen to stay with the humans in their settlement, but it is more often that a human chooses to ride with the elves for a short period of time. They know nothing of trolls and preservers.
They usually wear a lot of wooden pearls, feathers, horsehair braids, and they have acquired techniques for dyeing some things, and sometimes they use a muddy paint to cover either hair or parts of the body.
Events:
Quickwit is the current chieftess, and her first elfling, Dawn, has just been born. A strange sickness is still plaguing some of the human settlements, and the harshest part of the whitecold period is nearing it’s end, so Steedchoosing is soon upon the herd.
Known members:
Akáfia, Dawn, Edgerunner, Fylkir, Groundseeker, Gyrðir, Hreggsvöl, Jaseio, Naskur, Quickwit, Táta, Thufir the Ravenhaired, Torta, Swiftamber, Wilddew
