Greywing grew nauseated in Juniper's arms; if he was so set on rejecting her, why did his skin seem to glow, why was his scent so intoxicating? *We're getting back to the caves faster,* she kept telling herself, while also trying to remember who the healers were. There was the tall, dark one with the tail...her name wasn't the easiest to pronounce, but she was hard to forget. The other was...some sort of mind-healer? Perhaps that was who she should see...maybe she could...remove these urges.
Her stomach lurched at the thought. It was abhorrent. Why stop Recognition? Why keep their already small numbers from growing? Was it just Greywing's previous isolation that made her so rigid on the subject? Her upbringing? Maybe Juniper came from a land that wasn't plagued by humans...maybe his tribe had the luxury of denying Recognition, of choosing mates instead of leaving it to chance. She envied him.
"Well, you can't stay hidden forever," she grumbled, trying not to squirm. She wasn't accustomed to being helped to such a degree, and she felt helpless; it took everything in her to keep from leaping out of Juniper's arms and running away. She hadn't realized Recognition could bring such feelings of...shame.

Greywing claimed he could not stay hidden forever. Juniper repeated his previous words, when they had argued about denying Recognition.: "I can and I will."
His words were short and with every one came a puff of breath, visible in cold winter air. The treeshaper struggled in the snow and with the extra load of the maiden. Not to mention, the struggle in his mind did not make things any easier. Just as much as Greywing, Juniper wanted to flee the scene, although his motives were most likely different than hers.
"If I need to, that is." he then added. It had a slight threat laced in between the words. It was a warning of not pursuing after him. If she began hanging around his den -- Juniper doubted it greatly -- he would find another hiding place, if necessary. None of the new tribemates could drag him out from hiding, Juniper decided.

"You're as stubborn as a bloodstain," Greywing grumbled, turning her head away from Juniper. Her ankle throbbed, but the lack of weight on it was helping dull the pain. Part of her wanted it back; that pain was at least something else to focus on! All she could do now was keep snipping at her soul's unwilling mate, or try to relax. He was just as stubborn as she was, it seemed, and nothing was going to convince him he couldn't crawl into a tree and hide forever.
Well he could, for all she cared. If he wanted to run away from this, fine. She wouldn't go running after him, even though the prospect of denying Recognition made her stomach turn. Though it was no worse than the thought of mating with him. At first, she'd have done anything to get him to agree to mate...it was funny how quickly things could change, and then change again. Perhaps he was right...perhaps they wouldn't die from ignoring the call. She wouldn't let herself die over some stubborn, snotty, haughty elf who thought himself so much better than her!

Juniper fell silent for a good while, wanting to concentrate on getting them back to the cave and safety. He grumbled, huffed and puffed, but they made progress and finally, he thought he was seeing the familiar surroundings. The relief became evident in his facial expressions, not to mention the sigh as he puffed out a word: "Finally!"
Reaching the cave entrance, the treeshaper dropped Greywing off -- but to his surprise, he did it gently, allowing the maiden to take the weight of her own body on her better ankle. Dropping her on her bony rump would have been too childish at the moment.
After releasing the maiden, Juniper turned without a word, and was going to head back to his tree den. After a couple of steps, he remembered their original reason to even go out. As he scrambled and fumbled for the small pouch of fungus, he noticed himself wishing that Choice would never had lost his own mate. If there had not been disappearances, they would not have gone out to find aid, and nothing like this would have happened.
"Here." he said and tossed the pouch for Greywing. There was no way he was going to go anywhere near her again.

Without much use of her injured ankle, Greywing couldn't quite catch the pouch; thankfully, it landed close enough to her feet for her to pick up. Without looking at Juniper, or even answering him, she tied the pouch to her belt and started to hobble inside the caves. She didn't want to say anything to him...she couldn't. Her throat felt like it had closed up almost completely, trapping her words inside. Every word was bitter, like an unripe yellowskin fruit; even if she could speak, what good would her words do? She could have sent to him, but sending was like being back in his arms again. It was too close. More tears fell as she entered the cave's shadows. She felt just like that pouch...discarded, tossed aside, unimportant. Even the contents...some sort of fungus that rotted away healthy trees. Juniper was a treeshaper - Greywing was the fungus to his bark. She shuddered; a terrible comparison. This wasn't how Recognition was supposed to be. She sat on the first stone she came on that was deep enough inside the cave to not feel the wind's chill. She crossed her bad ankle over her knee and carefully started to remove her boot. ~**M-Mindlight? Are you here?**~ she sent, reaching out for the chieftess-healer. Perhaps another chieftess would understand. OOC: end?

OoC: I'll wrap up Juniper here.
~*~
He could ... feel the inner pain of Greywing. Brushing the feeling aside, the treeshaper headed to his shaped den. In the world of his own, everything was clear and harmless and not confusing and infuriating. Maybe he could catch some sleep, the blond wished. Juniper would use all of his might to try and deny this ever happening -- he wanted to keep his freedom and never to be tied to someone he barely knew.
But that was not true, right? Rak-- Greywing had been rejected a lot before this. Juniper tried to shake off the feeling of being in the wrong here, just as well as the way as their bond mixing up memories and things that had formed their souls. Grunting, he climbed to his den and tried to find peace.
The peace did not come.

OoC: End of the thread.
